The Collider Interviews video “Scarpetta’s Young Cast Reveal the Things They’re Dying To Do in Season 2,” published March 26, 2026, features the three actors playing the younger versions of the show’s central investigators: Rosy McEwen, Jake Cannavale, and Hunter Parrish. The video’s publisher description says the trio discussed how they built their characters alongside their older counterparts and what they would like to see in Season 2. The published description does not include a transcript or the individual answers, so this article does not attribute specific wishes to any of the three. What follows covers who they play, what is confirmed about Season 2, and what remains unknown.
Who the young cast plays
Scarpetta is a scripted drama, not a documentary, adapted from Patricia Cornwell’s novels. The series uses two timelines: a past timeline featuring younger versions of the main characters and a present-day timeline featuring the adult cast. TV Insider lists the casting for both (Amanda Bell, TV Insider, March 11, 2026):
| Character | Younger version (past timeline) | Adult version (present timeline) |
|---|---|---|
| Kay Scarpetta | Rosy McEwen | Nicole Kidman |
| Pete Marino | Jake Cannavale | Bobby Cannavale |
| Benton Wesley | Hunter Parrish | Simon Baker |
What the interview covers, and what it does not
The video is a group conversation with the three younger actors. Its description says they talked about working with their on-screen counterparts to shape their characters, and about what they hope to see when the show returns. The description also warns that the interview includes spoilers for the Season 1 finale, so viewers who have not finished that episode should watch with that in mind.
The reporting available for this article does not reproduce any of the actors’ answers about Season 2. If you want to know exactly what McEwen, Cannavale, or Parrish said they want to explore, the video itself or an official transcript is the only reliable source.

What is confirmed about Season 2
ELLE’s March 23, 2026 report, written by Starr Bowenbank, is the main source for the season’s structure. Its key points are below.
The novels being adapted
ELLE reports that Season 2 adapts Patricia Cornwell’s Cruel and Unusual and The Body Farm. Showrunner Liza Sarnoff explained the pacing of the adaptation:
“We do two books a season—season 1, we did Postmortem and Autopsy, and this year we’re doing Cruel and Unusual and The Body Farm. So the stories definitely start to pick up, and murders happen.”

How the two timelines differ
Sarnoff also described the tonal split between the two timelines, as ELLE attributes to her in a Collider interview:
“The way I sort of think about the show is that, in the past [timeline], we really embrace the procedural storytelling a little bit more and stay with the case a little bit more, and then in the present, we take some departures as far as their emotional lives and the lives of the family and all that.”
In practical terms, the past timeline is where the case-by-case investigation takes most of the screen time, while the present timeline focuses more on the characters’ personal lives.

How Season 2 opens
According to ELLE, the present-day timeline resumes immediately after the Season 1 finale. Sarnoff said:
“So, we are picking up right where we left off in [the season 1 finale] in the present day at the top of season 2 to show all the mysteries we left behind, but by the end of the episode, we’re fully into another case, which is a child abduction, so it’s super exciting.”
The past timeline picks up later in the story, according to the same report.

Production status
The Collider video description states that Season 2 had already started filming when the interview was published on March 26, 2026. That is the only production detail in the available reporting, and it is a snapshot from that date.
Release timing is not confirmed
ELLE’s March 23, 2026 article said no Season 2 release date had been announced. That is a dated status, not a confirmed release window. This article was written in October 2026 and the available reporting predates that by several months, so readers should check the official Scarpetta or Prime Video announcements for any newer date before relying on a timetable.

Much of the interview’s discussion of Season 2 connects back to a Season 1 decision by Pete Marino. TV Insider quoted Jake Cannavale on the choice:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsBest Value

“I feel like Marino doesn’t fully understand why he did it. I think that’s a huge crack in his self-perception, and it’s the beginning of a kind of awakening that we’ll definitely be seeing a lot more of in Season 2.”
That comment is Cannavale’s own view of his character’s arc, and it is the only specific Season 2 remark from the young cast that appears in the reporting available here. TV Insider’s story also includes finale spoilers.
Reading the source novels
The novels are optional background. Viewers do not need to read either one to follow the show, but they may be useful for anyone who wants to know the stories the season is drawn from.
- Cruel and Unusual: According to ELLE’s summary, fingerprints belonging to an executed killer turn up at another scene after Scarpetta has performed the autopsy.
- The Body Farm: According to the same summary, the investigation moves through North Carolina and involves a research facility in Tennessee.
ELLE does not say which book maps to which timeline, so readers should not assume one book belongs to the past storyline and the other to the present. Sarnoff’s description of the two timelines is the best guide available, and the adaptation mapping is not stated in the reporting.
Where to watch
Prime Video is the streaming home of Scarpetta, according to the reporting cited above. Availability by country and any new season dates should be checked on the platform directly, since the sources here do not cover regional availability.
