The sequel moves the story into the world of celebrity and performance. In an October 2024 review, Associated Press reviewer Mark Kennedy described it as a film about breakdowns in the public eye, with body-horror elements. His assessment is a critic’s interpretation, not an official description or a consensus verdict.
Is Smile 2 a sequel to Smile?
Yes. It continues the horror story established by the 2022 film, but shifts the central character to Skye Riley. Kennedy’s AP review reports that the sequel begins six days after the first film and that the stories are only loosely connected. That continuity detail comes from the review; Paramount’s official synopsis keeps the setup broader.

Who is in the cast?
Naomi Scott plays Skye Riley. Paramount’s film page also lists Rosemarie DeWitt as Elizabeth Riley, Miles Gutierrez-Riley as Joshua and Kyle Gallner as Joel. Paramount Global Content’s broader cast listing includes Lukas Gage, Peter Jacobson, Ray Nicholson, Dylan Gelula and Raúl Castillo.
How long is Smile 2?
Paramount’s consumer film page lists a runtime of 127 minutes, as does the Paramount+ catalog listing. The separate Paramount Global Content title entry lists 120 minutes. The sources do not explain the difference; for a U.S.-facing viewing estimate, the consumer and streaming listings support 127 minutes.
Is Smile 2 scary or graphic?
Paramount identifies the film as rated R. The AP review reports the rating descriptors as “strong bloody violent content, grisly images, language throughout and drug use.” That makes it a poor fit for viewers who want to avoid graphic violence or drug-related material. The film’s horror is also tied to the pressure surrounding Skye’s fame and public image.
How does it compare with the first film?
The most obvious change is the protagonist: the sequel centers on a pop star facing a high-profile career moment, rather than returning to the first film’s lead character. The link between the stories is present but, according to Kennedy’s review, loose. The celebrity setting also gives the horror a different thematic frame. Kennedy wrote, “Finn this time takes on fame, a better tonal fit than the generational trauma of the first.”
