On Saturday, May 3, 2025, a 63-foot Lamborghini-branded yacht began taking on water near Monument Island, off Miami Beach. The U.S. Coast Guard said 32 people were rescued, and contemporaneous reports said no injuries were reported. As of the May 5 and May 6, 2025 coverage, the cause had not been established, and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) was leading the investigation.
What happened, in order
- The boat began taking on water. On May 3, 2025, the vessel started taking on water near Monument Island off Miami Beach. The Associated Press (AP) describes it that way. AP’s reporting does not describe a confirmed complete capsizing.
- Rescuers responded. The Coast Guard said 32 people were rescued. FWC and local marine patrol units also responded.
- Passengers were taken ashore and checked. The rescued people were taken to Miami Beach Marina, where Miami Beach Fire Rescue checked them. Contemporary coverage reported no injuries.
- The cause became an open question. Authorities did not yet know why the boat began taking on water, and FWC was named as the lead investigator.
Which vessel was involved
Coverage identifies the boat in two ways. The name and model come from different outlets, and the length is described in slightly different terms.

Why the cause is still unresolved
No official cause has been published in the coverage available for this article. That is the central fact. Readers searching whether the yacht sank because of overloading, a mechanical fault or something else should treat every explanation as unconfirmed. The reporting describes FWC’s investigation as ongoing.
Witness description versus official account
Witness Rachel Miller, quoted by AP, described the scene: “We saw, like, a bunch of cop boats, like police boats, and there was another yacht that was flipped over, completely vertical in the water.” That is an eyewitness description of a yacht appearing vertical. It is not an official finding that the vessel fully capsized. The phrase “flips over” in the headline comes from that witness and headline language, not from an official description.

The mayday call
Miami yacht broker Oscar Diaz, quoted by the Miami Herald, recounted a radio transmission: “Over the radio, a captain called out, ‘MAY DAY, MY BOAT IS SINKING,’” Diaz’s account is secondhand, relayed from a radio call, and it shows the captain’s distress report. It does not establish why the boat was taking on water.
Was the yacht overloaded?
The coverage cannot answer this yet. Two outlets cited different maximum-capacity figures from different documents, and neither outlet’s figure settles the legal limit for this vessel.

The two figures are attributed to different documents, so they should be presented side by side, not merged into one number. The U.S. Coast Guard’s Petty Officer Nicholas Strasburg, speaking to CBS News Miami, said: “There are certainly safety guidelines in place regarding the amount of people you can safely have on your vessel.” He did not tie that statement to this boat’s capacity or to any violation.
The $4 million and $4.7 million figures
The vessel’s price appears in two different forms. Neither figure is a confirmed sale price.

The “$4million” in the headline matches the reported valuation, not the listing price.
The “30 influencers” and “No **ks given” wording
The headline’s two most attention-getting phrases need to be separated from the facts.

- The rescue count is 32, not 30. The Coast Guard’s figure is the number of people rescued. The reporting does not establish that all 32 were influencers, or how many were.
- “No **ks given” is a commenter’s remark. PerthNow attributes the phrase to a commenter rather than to an official description of the passengers. It should not be read as evidence that everyone aboard was unconcerned about the situation.
What remains open
- Cause. FWC was leading the investigation. The coverage dated May 5 and 6, 2025 does not include a published cause finding.
- Legal capacity. The 16-person and 12-person figures conflict, and no source in the coverage establishes the applicable legal limit or a violation.
- Enforcement. No enforcement outcome is reported in the same coverage.
- Wider trends. A single incident does not show a pattern. The coverage contains no study data on yacht safety or influencer boating.
For updates after May 2025, check FWC directly rather than relying on headlines or social-media summaries.
