What is the Scamanda docuseries about?
ABC describes Riley as having claimed she had Stage 3 blood cancer and shared her story online. After an anonymous tip, investigative producer Nancy Moscatiello looked into the claims. The docuseries revisits how concerns developed and how the case proceeded, using interviews and archival material.

ABC News reports that Riley pleaded guilty to wire fraud in May 2022. She was sentenced to 60 months in prison and ordered to pay $105,513 in restitution. ABC also reported that she received more than $105,000 in donations. ABC News’ account of the case gives further background.
What does the trailer lead into?
ABC News Studios says the series includes interviews with police and an IRS investigator who worked on the case, former friends of Riley, and a neuropsychologist. It also features communications between Riley and podcast host Charlie Webster, archival material, and items collected by Moscatiello during her investigation. This is the network’s description of the series, rather than an independent assessment of its conclusions. ABC News Studios’ announcement outlines the planned format.

Is Scamanda based on a podcast?
Yes. The docuseries is based on the podcast of the same name, which tells the story in audio. The television version adds on-camera interviews and visual archival material. The trailer’s official page dates the series premiere to January 30, 2025, and says the show would stream on Hulu the following day. The official trailer episode page records that launch information.
