Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning posted a reported $204.5 million global launch, according to TheWrap, but that figure covered a staggered release that included two weekends of play in 15 overseas countries. In North America, the film opened to $63 million over Friday through Sunday, a franchise record for that three-day window, according to the Associated Press. It finished second domestically behind Lilo & Stitch.
How much did The Final Reckoning make on opening weekend?
TheWrap reported a $204.5 million global launch in May 2025. That total was not a single, simultaneous weekend: TheWrap said it included two weekends of theatrical play in 15 overseas countries, while the film opened in North America on May 23. Earlier international openings, beginning May 17 in some territories, contributed to the staggered rollout.
For the domestic Friday-to-Sunday period, the Associated Press reported $63 million. AP described that as a franchise record for a three-day opening, ahead of Mission: Impossible – Fallout’s $61 million domestic three-day debut in 2018. The film nevertheless placed second at the North American box office that weekend, behind Lilo & Stitch.
Was it the biggest opening in the franchise?
Yes, if the claim is clearly limited to the reported opening window and measure: AP called the film’s $63 million domestic Friday-to-Sunday gross a franchise-best three-day opening, and TheWrap reported a $204.5 million global launch across its staggered release window. These are different measures, not interchangeable versions of one weekend total.

The apparent conflict with a previous franchise record comes from the length of the window. Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One earned $80 million over five days in 2023, according to AP; its three-day total was $56.2 million. Comparing that five-day figure directly with The Final Reckoning’s $63 million three-day gross would overstate the comparison.
What did it earn in IMAX?
IMAX Corporation reported that the film earned $31 million across its global IMAX network through Monday, May 26, 2025, calling it the franchise’s biggest IMAX global opening. IMAX said the amount represented 14.2% of the film’s global box office at that point and came from fewer than 900 IMAX screens; China had not yet opened. This is an IMAX-format figure for an early period, not the film’s total theatrical gross.

How much did The Final Reckoning make worldwide in total?
The Numbers lists a final worldwide theatrical total of $591,353,074, comprising $197,413,515 domestic and $393,939,559 international. Those are later cumulative grosses, so they answer a different question from the opening figures.
Box Office Mojo lists a different worldwide total: $598,767,057, with $197,413,515 domestic and $401,353,542 international. Because the databases differ, use one source consistently rather than combining their domestic, international, or worldwide numbers.

How does its final gross compare with other Mission: Impossible films?
Using The Numbers’ franchise listings, The Final Reckoning finished below several earlier entries in worldwide theatrical gross. Its opening-period record did not become a lifetime-gross record.
| Film | Worldwide theatrical gross listed by The Numbers |
|---|---|
| Mission: Impossible – Fallout | $786,269,620 |
| Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation | $688,858,992 |
| Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol | $694,713,230 |
| Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning | $591,353,074 |
What the opening says about theatrical performance
TheWrap reported that the combined Memorial Day marketplace reached an estimated $328 million over four days, then a holiday record. That broader marketplace result helps place the film’s launch in context, but it is not part of the movie’s own gross.

- The complete 2-movie collection of Tom Cruise's final Mission Impossible saga.
Paramount domestic distribution president Chris Aronson told AP: “The spectacle of what Tom and McQ put on the screen, it screams theatrical,” and “The product they put out just screams, ‘This has to be in theaters.’” The comments reflect the studio’s theatrical positioning; they do not establish the film’s profitability.
The Numbers lists the production budget as $400 million. That database estimate alone does not show whether the film broke even or made a profit: a budget is not the same as a studio’s total costs or theatrical receipts, and the gross figures above do not account for all revenue and expenses.
