The Season 3 finale of Ghosts ends with Patience, the Puritan ghost Isaac left behind, pulling him into the dirt. The episode is “Isaac’s Wedding” (Season 3, Episode 10), and it comes right after Isaac calls off his planned wedding to Nigel. This guide covers what happens on screen, how the showrunners explained the ending, and what Danielle Pinnock has said about it. Spoilers follow.
What happens in “Isaac’s Wedding”
The episode opens with Isaac uneasy about marrying Nigel. Pete’s account of how he found love with Donna gets Isaac to recognize that something is missing from his own relationship. Shortly before the vows, Isaac breaks off the wedding.

The cliffhanger
At the end of the episode, Patience returns and grabs Isaac from behind, pulling him into the dirt. That image closes the season and sets up the abduction as the central cliffhanger. The episode is the season finale and aired on CBS on May 2, 2024.
Why the showrunners built the ending this way
Co-showrunners Joe Wiseman and Joe Port told TVLine in a May 2, 2024 interview that the writers knew Patience would return once they introduced her in Episode 308 (Season 3, Episode 8). Wiseman framed her motive as anger at Isaac and a desire for revenge. He also described the visual as the reason for the choice:

“We thought it was just, like, a great visual of Isaac being grabbed from behind, and being pulled into the dirt was a great way to leave the season with a cliffhanger.”
Port pointed to an earlier line as foreshadowing. Alberta tells Isaac, “Maybe death has some surprises for you yet,” and Port identified that moment as setting up what follows.
What Danielle Pinnock said
Pinnock’s reactions come from two May 2024 interviews. In a Collider Ladies Night interview, reproduced by Filmibee on May 3, 2024, she said the ending left her “shook,” and she added: “Shook. I was. I really was.” She also said she had no idea what would happen in Season 4. In that conversation she described the cast group text as a place where they traded theories after reading scripts, while the showrunners kept future story details from them.
A separate TV Insider cast interview, published May 3, 2024, gives a shorter version of her reaction. She said she was shaken by the reveal, wondered what Patience meant for Season 4, and expressed gratitude that the show had another season. She also noted that Alberta got to sing “At Last” in the episode.

In the Collider interview, Pinnock wondered whether other “dirt ghosts” might exist and how the group could try to find Isaac. These are her speculation. They are not confirmed lore or a description of Season 4. The same interview has her saying she was heartbroken by Isaac and Nigel’s breakup.

Her ideas for Alberta
Pinnock said she would like to explore the insecurity beneath Alberta’s confident persona and how Alberta became a performer in the 1920s. She also raised questions about Alberta’s life outside singing, whether Alberta wanted children, and her spirituality. These are the actor’s suggested avenues. They are not announced episodes or established canon.
