Disney announced the second season as an anthology installment: it brings a distinct story, location, and cast rather than simply carrying the first season’s plot forward. Disney’s 2023 announcement said season one drew on elements from five Goosebumps books: Say Cheese and Die!, The Haunted Mask, The Cuckoo Clock of Doom, Go Eat Worms!, and The Night of the Living Dummy. That list describes first-season inspirations, not confirmed source books for The Vanishing.
