Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →IF is a 2024 family film written and directed by John Krasinski, with Ryan Reynolds among its stars and producers. It follows Bea, a girl who discovers she can see imaginary friends and tries to reunite them with the children who once imagined them.
What is the movie about?
In IF, Bea discovers that she can see imaginary friends—called “IFs”—who have been forgotten as the children who imagined them grow up. She sets out to reconnect the stranded companions with their former children before the IFs disappear. Paramount’s film page and 2024 release announcement describe that central premise.
The story’s idea came from Krasinski’s imagination and conversations with his children, according to an Associated Press interview. He recalled wishing he could visit the places his children’s imaginary friends went. That is the filmmaker’s account of the inspiration, not a claim about how imaginary friends work for children generally.
Who stars in IF?
On-screen cast and filmmakers
Cailey Fleming plays Bea, Ryan Reynolds stars, and Krasinski both directs and appears in the film. Fiona Shaw is also among the named cast. Krasinski and Reynolds are producers alongside Allyson Seeger and Andrew Form, as Paramount’s release notice lists.

Voice cast
The imaginary friends are voiced by performers including Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Steve Carell. The AP interview also names Matt Damon, Jon Stewart, Maya Rudolph and the late Louis Gossett Jr. among the voice cast. Michael Giacchino composed the music, according to Paramount’s release notice.
How was the film made?
IF combines live action and animation. In its AP interview, Krasinski described using puppets, pictures or himself as performance references for characters that were added later. That approach helped the actors respond to the imaginary friends during filming, even though the finished characters include animation.

Paramount signed on to make and distribute the project with Krasinski and Reynolds’ Maximum Effort in October 2019, the AP reported. Paramount’s release identifies it as a Sunday Night and Maximum Effort production.
What is IF rated?
Paramount lists the film as PG for thematic elements and mild language. That is the studio’s stated rating explanation; it does not provide a more detailed content advisory in the cited notice.
Where can I stream IF?
Paramount announced on July 8, 2024, that IF would begin streaming on Paramount+ in the United States and Canada on July 9, 2024. Its streaming editorial, published July 9, 2024, described access for subscribers through either plan then offered. Those dated announcements do not establish whether the film is in the service’s current catalog, what plans are currently called, or where it is available outside those countries. Check the live Paramount+ catalog for your region before subscribing.
Paramount said the film had earned more than $185 million worldwide as of its July 8, 2024 streaming announcement. That is the studio’s reported gross at that date, not a verified final lifetime total.
