On October 10, 2025, TVLine reported that Prime Video had canceled Countdown after its first season, as described in its cancellation report. The same day, TVLine reported that cast member Jensen Ackles had publicly said the show was not picked up for another season, in a separate report on his statement. Two outlets, one date, and the same outcome: there is no season 2 for Dane to return to.
The show and Dane’s role
Countdown is a Prime Video action-thriller that premiered in June 2025. Eric Dane played Nathan Blythe, a senior law-enforcement official who assembles a multi-agency task force. The first season was the only season produced.
What Derek Haas said about Eric Dane returning
In an exclusive interview with Parade published June 19, 2025, Haas was asked whether Dane might come back if Countdown received a season 2 pickup. He answered:

“My thought is I will take any Eric Dane that I can get. I absolutely adore him, and I adore the character. If he says, ‘I am up for X, I will make X happen.’ I love him and it’s going to be up to him. The ball’s going to be in Eric’s court, and I will take anything that he wants [to do].”
The answer was conditional. Haas was describing what he would do if the series continued. He was not announcing a renewal or confirming that Dane would return, and he placed the decision with Dane. You can read the full exchange in the Parade interview.
How Haas described the show’s prospects during season 1
In a TV Insider interview published July 29, 2025, while the first season was still airing, Haas said streaming viewership data was new to him and that he felt viewers were still finding the show. That was his outlook during the season run. It was not a renewal, and it came before the October cancellation.
