Penelope Featherington and Colin Bridgerton finally become a couple, but their marriage is tested by the secret Penelope has kept as Lady Whistledown. By the finale, she has revealed herself to the ton, the Featherington title has an heir, and Francesca has met a new member of the Stirling family.
How Season 3 begins
Season 3 follows Penelope after she overhears Colin disparage her and gives up on her long-held crush. She wants to find a husband while keeping the independence that lets her continue writing as the anonymous society columnist Lady Whistledown. Colin returns from his travels with a new confidence and offers to help her become more comfortable in society, hoping to repair their friendship. The lessons bring their feelings into focus—and make Penelope’s double life increasingly difficult to protect. Netflix’s Season 3 announcement set out that premise.
The season has eight episodes. Netflix released episodes 301–304 as Part 1 on May 16, 2024, and episodes 305–308 as Part 2 on June 13, 2024. Those are the original premiere dates.
Why Penelope’s courtship with Lord Debling ends
Colin’s lessons help Penelope attract attention, including from Lord Debling. He is a serious suitor, but he is looking for a practical match rather than a love match. His conservation work and planned travels leave him unsure he can love a partner. Penelope wants more than a convenient arrangement, while Colin’s feelings make the courtship harder to ignore. The mismatch becomes clear before Debling can offer the future she wants. Netflix Tudum’s Season 3 ending explainer describes Debling’s intentions and the events that follow.

When Colin and Penelope get together
In Episode 4, after the queen’s ball, Penelope and Colin share a carriage ride that changes their friendship into a romance. Colin admits his feelings and asks Penelope to marry him at the end of Part 1. His proposal is a major turning point, but it does not settle the question of whether their relationship can survive the truth about Lady Whistledown.
When Colin finds out Penelope is Lady Whistledown
Colin discovers Penelope’s identity in the final moments of Episode 6, as she delivers her latest issue to be printed. She has resumed writing to counter Cressida, who has been spreading malicious lies while falsely claiming to be Whistledown. For Colin, the revelation makes the secret a direct threat to their engagement; for Penelope, it is also the work and voice she has fought to preserve.

Do Colin and Penelope get married?
Yes. They marry in Episode 7, after the Whistledown conflict forces them to confront the damage secrecy has done. Penelope later reveals her identity publicly to the ton in the finale. Her story ends not with the disappearance of Lady Whistledown, but with Penelope claiming authorship openly. As showrunner Jess Brownell put it in Netflix Tudum’s ending explainer, “Penelope learns to speak up for herself and learns the importance of being honest, which is something that got her in trouble last season.”
What happens to the Featherington family?
Penelope and Colin have a son, Elliot, who becomes the next Lord Featherington. Prudence and Philippa each have daughters, so Elliot’s birth secures the title’s continuation through the next generation.

What to remember about the other characters
Francesca, John and Michaela
Francesca marries John Stirling. At the finale’s ball, she meets his cousin Michaela. The character is the show’s gender-swapped counterpart to Michael Stirling from Julia Quinn’s sixth Bridgerton novel, When He Was Wicked. Season 3 introduces Michaela but does not settle what her future in the series will be.
Benedict, Tilley and Paul
Benedict explores a casual relationship with Tilley Arnold and Paul Suarez and grows more open about his sexual fluidity. When Tilley wants a more serious commitment, he declines. Violet’s plan for a masquerade ball the following year points toward another chapter for him rather than resolving his romantic story.

Anthony, Kate, Violet and Lady Danbury
Anthony and Kate plan to travel to India for the birth of their child. Violet grows closer to Lord Marcus Anderson at a pace she chooses. Lady Danbury confronts her brother Marcus about their childhood and the conflict between them.

Season 3 premiered in two parts in 2024: the first four episodes arrived May 16, and the final four June 13. Netflix also confirmed before release that the adaptation would include the hand-wrapping moment from Julia Quinn’s Romancing Mr. Bridgerton, the source novel for Penelope and Colin’s story. The novel is an optional companion read, not a prerequisite for following the series. Netflix’s announcement provides both the release details and book connection.
