Why are there several titles for the sequel?
The names reflect different points in the film’s announcement history, not separate movies.
- A Minecraft Movie 2: an earlier working title used in coverage.

What does the Paramount-Warner Bros. merger mean for the date?
Paramount’s acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery is complete: Skydance announced the closing on October 6, 2026, in its official investor-relations release. The release describes the combined company but does not mention A Minecraft Movie Squared.

Plot details remain limited. In June 2026, ComingSoon quoted director Jared Hess describing the direction as: “We’re taking Steve and Alex and going on this epic mission back into the Overworld.” Treat this as Hess’s reported description of the premise, not a full synopsis. He also described the sequel as “bigger” and “crazier” and “funnier.”
GameSpot reported that Jack Black, Jason Momoa, and Danielle Brooks are returning, Kirsten Dunst is joining as Alex, and filming is taking place in New Zealand. Those details are secondary-source reports; they have not been presented here as a studio-confirmed cast or production announcement.

The Numbers lists the first A Minecraft Movie’s worldwide theatrical gross as $960,387,780, comprising $424,087,780 domestically and $536,300,000 internationally.
