Según reportes de prensa de julio de 2020, la demanda civil que Francisco «Paco» Fuentes presentó contra Eduardo Yáñez fue desestimada después de que ninguna de las partes acudiera a una última audiencia. Ningún medio confirmó un acuerdo extrajudicial, y las notas de 2020 siguen siendo la última referencia pública disponible sobre el caso: no hay un registro judicial actualizado que confirme el estado actual del proceso.
Cronología del caso
El caso se originó en una entrevista en una alfombra roja en Los Ángeles. Las fechas siguientes provienen de la cobertura de cada medio citado.

Qué reportaron los medios en 2020
La desestimación se conoce por notas publicadas entre el 23 y el 27 de julio de 2020. Cada medio atribuyó la información de forma distinta:
- TV Azteca (23 de julio de 2020): informó la desestimación con base en una copia de un documento judicial que indicaba que ambas partes faltaron a la última audiencia.
- Infobae (23 de julio de 2020): reportó el desenlace y aclaró que no había confirmación oficial de las partes.
- People en Español (27 de julio de 2020): también reportó la desestimación y señaló que el supuesto acuerdo no estaba confirmado.
Estas tres notas coinciden en el resultado, pero ninguna muestra el documento completo ni un fallo de fondo. Lo que se publicó es el estado procesal, no una resolución sobre si Yáñez agredió a Fuentes.

Qué no está confirmado
La cobertura disponible obliga a separar tres cosas que suelen mezclarse al hablar de este caso:
- Un acuerdo entre las partes: la hipótesis de un arreglo extrajudicial circuló en la prensa, pero ningún reporte la confirmó ni hubo declaraciones verificables de Yáñez o Fuentes que la respalden.
- Un retiro voluntario de la demanda: no hay evidencia en los reportes de que Fuentes haya retirado el caso por decisión propia.
- Una resolución sobre el fondo: la desestimación por incomparecencia no equivale a que un tribunal haya decidido que los hechos ocurrieron o no.
Por eso la frase «ya no hay demanda» resume el reporte de 2020, pero exagera lo que sabemos. Lo accurate es decir que medios informaron la desestimación por incomparecencia de ambas partes en julio de 2020, y que el estado posterior no está documentado en fuentes públicas recientes.

Los Angeles Times publicó una entrevista con Fuentes el 24 de octubre de 2017, cuando presentó la demanda. Esta fue su declaración:
«Lo primero que busco es justicia, el poder regresar a mi trabajo, a mi vida normal, que la ley se encargue de esto que sea analizado y se deje un mensaje general.»

La cita expresa su objetivo al presentar el caso: una resolución legal y la vuelta a su trabajo como reportero. No es una declaración sobre el desenlace de 2020, y no hay en los reportes consultados una declaración equivalente de Yáñez sobre el caso.
