The conversation was conducted by io9 senior reporter Germain Lussier and published by Gizmodo on August 15, 2024.
Who was behind the interview?
Gizmodo’s introduction describes the exchange as a blend of motion-capture technology, real-time animation and the official Mickey Mouse voice of Bret Iwan. It does not give further production specifications. Lussier interviewed Mickey in character, so Mickey’s comments are part of a playful fan conversation rather than independent statements from Disney executives.
What did Mickey say about Walt Disney and Disney’s stories?
Asked about Walt Disney, Mickey recalls working with him from the beginning and names Steamboat Willie, Plane Crazy and Fantasia. He calls Walt a dreamer and says, “I hope that we all do our part to keep that dream alive, to keep the magic alive.” That is Mickey’s dialogue in the interview, not a historical quotation from Walt.
On Disney’s expanded collection of story worlds, Mickey welcomes the chance to tell more kinds of stories, mentioning Star Wars, Marvel, Pixar and Avatar. His concise summary: “The magic lies in the stories.”

What was Mickey’s answer about Star Wars?
Mickey says he has recently enjoyed The Mandalorian and names the original films—A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi—as favorites. He calls Han Solo “pretty great.” The cosplay talk turns to a joke about dressing as Luke Skywalker and wanting to try the Mandalorian’s outfit.
Did Mickey choose Disneyland or Disney World?
He picks Disneyland, citing the interview’s California setting and the park’s status as Walt Disney’s original park. He also says each park is unique. This is an in-character preference, not a comparison of attractions, costs, or visitor experience, and it is not a current travel recommendation.

Bret Iwan
In the closing exchange, Mickey calls Iwan a good pal and describes their relationship warmly after Lussier jokingly introduces him as a “new up-and-coming voice actor.”

What the interview does—and does not—cover
The exchange is designed as entertainment for Disney fans, with Star Wars, parks, cosplay and familiar films at its center. Although the introduction jokes about bigger business and political subjects, the conversation does not offer substantive claims about Disney labor policy, political disputes, subscription terms, or which resort is better for a trip.
