At the December 9, 2025 Prêmio Multishow, Zé Felipe paused over the name Dominguinho while presenting the Album of the Year award. The hesitation became an online joke about his ability to read, but that accusation is meme framing—not an established fact. Felipe said he was unsure whether Dominguinho referred to the album or its artist and stated that he can read.
What happened during the award announcement?
Zé Felipe presented an award alongside Kenya Sade at the ceremony on Tuesday, December 9, 2025. During the Album of the Year announcement, he hesitated over the name Dominguinho, and Sade supplied the winner’s name. The award was for the album associated with João Gomes, Jota.pê and Mestrinho.

The moment was brief, but clips and posts about it spread online. Some users framed his pause as proof that he could not read. Those posts document the reaction to the moment; they do not establish anything about Felipe’s literacy.
What did Zé Felipe say about the pause?
In an explanation reported by CNN Brasil, Felipe said he was uncertain whether Dominguinho was the singer or the album: “Beleza, Dominguinho é o cantor ou é o álbum? Fiquei na dúvida.” He said he waited for the presenter to announce it, then addressed the accusation directly: “Mas eu sei ler. Não sou mestre da leitura não, mas um pouquinho eu sei, tá?”

Why did it become an illiteracy meme?
The pause gave social media users a short, easily clipped moment to turn into a joke. CNN Brasil quoted one post framing it as “O Zé Felipe não sabendo ler ‘Dominguinho’ para anunciar o vencedor de Álbum do Ano no Prêmio Multishow.” That is the post’s interpretation of the stumble, not a verified finding about Felipe.
The clearest distinction is between what viewers saw and what some users inferred: he hesitated over an unfamiliar-sounding name during a live announcement; his explanation was that he was unsure whether it named the artist or the album. The available reports do not substantiate the meme’s claim about his reading ability.
