The reports described what was visible on the account at that time. None of the coverage established why she made the change, and the account action on its own does not show that her relationship with Holland ended.
What was reported in January 2024
Teen Vogue reported that users noticed on January 3, 2024 that Zendaya’s following count stood at zero. The Independent followed on January 4, 2024, reporting that her account showed she followed no accounts, including Tom Holland. The Independent also noted that Holland still followed her at that time.
These were press observations of a single moment. They do not verify what Zendaya’s following list looks like today, and they should not be read as a record of the account at any date other than the one the outlets described.
The post that appeared nearby
Her most recent feed post before the change was a poster for Challengers. Us Weekly quoted the caption as “Challengers April 26th” alongside a New Year greeting, and Teen Vogue dated the poster post to January 1, 2024.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
The timing offers context, since a promotional post appeared close to the change. It does not show that promotion caused the change. Two events occurring near each other are not evidence of a shared cause.
What is known about the reason
The contemporaneous coverage reported that Zendaya had not explained the change. Some commentary speculated about a social-media cleanup or the timing of the film’s promotion. Us Weekly framed its own discussion around the fact that the motive was unknown. None of the cited reporting established either idea as her reason, and fans’ guesses should be treated as guesses.

Later reporting and why it does not explain 2024
Coverage from 2026 adds dated context, but it is about later events and does not address the 2024 account change.
- March 2026: In an interview with the Associated Press at a film premiere, Zendaya discussed privacy. She said: “I think there’s a balance between hiding and then also just like living your life and enjoying your life and protecting things that are special to yourself and I think everyone kind of has to do that in some way.” She was speaking about privacy in general. She did not tie the remark to her Instagram following list. She also declined to confirm marriage speculation in that interview.
- June 2026: The Associated Press reported that Tom Holland appeared to confirm that he and Zendaya had married. This report postdates the January 2024 observations and does not identify any cause for the earlier account change.
Read together, these reports do not connect the 2024 unfollowing to the couple’s later public statements. A later marriage report cannot tell readers why a 2024 account state looked the way it did.

How to phrase the question accurately
Readers often search for “Why did Zendaya unfollow everyone on Instagram?” or “Did Zendaya unfollow Tom Holland?” The accurate answer to both is the same. The reports say the following count was zero in early January 2024 and that Holland was among the accounts no longer followed while he still followed her. The reason was not stated, and the change alone does not establish a breakup.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Points to keep straight
- The January 2024 zero-following count was reported as observed on January 3 and published on January 4, 2024.
- Holland was reported as one of the accounts she no longer followed, and he still followed her at the time.
- The nearby Challengers post provides timing context only.
- Zendaya had not publicly explained the change in the 2024 reporting.
- Her March 2026 privacy comments and the June 2026 marriage report are separate events and do not explain the 2024 action.
The unfollowing is best understood as a documented account state from early 2024 whose cause remains unreported, not as a signal of how the relationship later developed.
