In May 2021, two outlets, iG and POPline, reported that a rap track called “Yellow Metal,” attributed to Zayn Malik and running about 24 minutes, was circulating online. According to those reports, his cousin Daniaal Malik shared it through an Instagram story, and playback was linked to SoundCloud. Neither report includes confirmation from Zayn Malik or an official release notice, so the attribution, the track’s authenticity, and whether it can be heard today all remain unverified.
What the 2021 reports describe
- Title: “Yellow Metal.”
- Length: Both iG and POPline describe the track as approximately 24 minutes. That figure is an approximate duration taken from coverage, not a measured or independently checked value.
- Format: Both outlets describe it as a rap.
- Date of coverage: The reports are dated May 28, 2021. They describe the track as it appeared then and do not show whether it is still online.
How the track was reportedly shared
The reports agree on a short chain of events. Each step below is attributed to the outlet that described it, not to a confirmed record of who uploaded what.
- Daniaal Malik, Zayn Malik’s cousin, posted an Instagram story containing the track (iG).
- The story linked to playback on SoundCloud (iG). POPline likewise reports a SoundCloud posting by the cousin.
- Both outlets published their coverage in May 2021, which is the most recent reporting on the track in the sources available.
A share from a relative and a link to a third-party platform are not the same as an artist-controlled release. The reports do not establish whether the SoundCloud upload was made by an official account.
Themes the outlets summarized
Neither outlet quotes lyrics in a way that can be checked against an authorized recording or transcript. What follows is how each outlet summarized the track’s subjects, presented as reported.

The overlap is informative: both outlets describe self-worth, xenophobia, and false friends, which suggests those are the most consistent readings of the track. The differences are more likely to reflect how each writer listened than a clear split in content, and neither report confirms that a given lyric says any of these things.
What is not established
- Artist confirmation: No statement from Zayn Malik confirming that he recorded, approved, or released the track appears in these reports.
- Official release: No label, artist page, or official announcement is cited.
- Lyrics: The reports include lyric excerpts, but they were not checked against an authorized recording or transcript, so they should not be read as verified quotations.
- Personal meaning: The headline’s framing that Zayn “opens up” is an editorial interpretation. The reports describe themes; they do not establish that those themes reflect his own experience.
- Current availability: A 2021 report cannot show whether the upload still exists, is accessible in your region, or was removed.
How to check whether the track is available today
- Start with the artist’s own verified accounts. An official post, pinned message, or statement would be the strongest evidence of authorship.
- If you find a SoundCloud upload, open the uploader’s profile. Look for a verified badge, a link to the artist’s official channels, and the upload date. An account that has no connection to the artist should not be treated as an official source.
- Search major music platforms for an official release by the artist. If the track is absent from the artist’s official discography, that absence is informative, though it does not prove the track was never released.
- Treat reposts, mirrors, and uploads that cite only “Yellow Metal” without an attributed source with caution. Several of them may be unauthorized copies.
- Note the date of any source you find. A link that worked in 2021 may no longer resolve.
If you cannot find an official channel, the most accurate description is that the track was reported in 2021 and remains unverified.
