What was Zealous Productions’ Cinderella pantomime?
It was a Christmas pantomime built around the familiar Cinderella story, presented by Zealous Productions in Perth. Contemporary coverage described a playful, family-oriented approach rather than a straight retelling. In a 26 December 2021 review, BroadwayWorld noted audience participation, comedy aimed at children and adults, songs, and departures from the familiar fairy-tale story. The reviewer also described music combining a small live band with recorded tracks. BroadwayWorld’s review is a critic’s account of that specific production.
When and where did it run?
PerthNow reported a run at the Regal Theatre from 22–29 December 2021, including a relaxed performance on 28 December at 1pm. PerthNow’s 9 December 2021 feature gives the dates and details of the relaxed matinee. BroadwayWorld also referred to a relaxed matinee and, at the time of its review, pointed readers to Ticketek for ticket information; that 2021 reference is not a current booking link.

Who was in the cast?
PerthNow identified Amber Scates as Cinderella, Ethan Jones as Prince Charming and Elethea Sartorelli as the Fairy Godmother. The feature also named Penny Shaw as Baroness Griselda, Robert Hofmann as Baron Hardup, and John O’Hara and Brendan Hanson as the stepsisters Fanny and Danni. BroadwayWorld’s review separately named Tate Bennett as Buttons.
How did Amber Scates approach Cinderella?
PerthNow reported that Scates and Jones were partners in real life and quoted Scates on her interpretation of the title role. She said she wanted to play Cinderella “as her own woman,” finding her story and strength rather than portraying “just another princess.” Scates also described the show’s tone: “It’s a tongue-in-cheek world where you’re performing for children but also the parents too.”

That perspective fits the production’s reported blend of familiar fairy-tale material with comic audience address. The review’s observations about participation, family-targeted humor and mixed live and recorded music describe this particular show; they should not be taken as a claim about every pantomime.
