His family said he was taken off life support on March 3.
Who was Andrew Cross?
Cross was a Grand Junction, Colorado, resident and wilderness guide. He started his Desert Drifter YouTube channel in late 2023, posting videos exploring the American West. His obituary records his birth on November 9, 1988, and death on March 4, 2025. FOX 11 Los Angeles reported that the channel had received more than 68 million views since he joined YouTube in 2023; that is a historical total reported in 2025, not a current view count.
What happened to Andrew Cross?
Cross was injured in a car crash at the end of January or beginning of February 2025. Accounts differ by one day: a Yahoo Entertainment report citing family updates and FOX place the crash on January 31, while E! News gives February 1. Reports say the crash caused a traumatic brain injury.
LBC reported, attributing the account to the Mesa County Coroner’s Office, that Cross was stopped at a light when another vehicle hit his car from behind at high speed. The available reporting establishes the injury and subsequent life-support decision, but does not provide a medical cause-of-death document or a more detailed clinical sequence.

What did his family say?
Cross’s sister, Jenna Spooner, announced his death. Reports say the family removed him from life support on March 3, the day before he died. In a CaringBridge statement quoted by E! News, Spooner wrote: “Andrew’s spirit is free, surrounded by light & love.”
