Yoko Ono Net Worth: What the $700 Million Estimate Actually Means

Celebrity Net Worth’s $700 million estimate is not an audited figure—and it is distinct from John Lennon estate valuations, probate amounts and annual estate income.

Celebrity Net Worth estimates Yoko Ono’s net worth at $700 million, on a page marked last updated September 25, 2026. That is the publisher’s estimate—not a publicly audited account of Ono’s personal finances. The figure also should not be confused with the value of John Lennon’s estate, its annual income, or probate assets reported decades ago.

How much is Yoko Ono worth?

The most recent figure in the reviewed sources is Celebrity Net Worth’s $700 million estimate, dated to that site’s September 25, 2026 update. It is a commercial publisher’s estimate, not a verified personal balance sheet. The sources reviewed do not establish a public audited accounting of Ono’s current wealth.

That distinction matters because reports about Ono’s wealth have used different subjects and measures: a person’s estimated net worth, an estate’s estimated value, probate amounts, and the estate’s income in a particular year. Those figures cannot be added together or treated as interchangeable.

Why reported figures have varied

Ono questioned a $150 million claim in 1980

In a 1980 Playboy interview, the interviewer cited a New York Post claim that Ono had said she was worth more than $150 million. Lennon replied, “We never admitted anything.” Asked whether the figure was accurate, Ono said, “I don’t know what we have. It becomes so complex that you need to have ten accountants working for two years to find out what you have.” This was a remark about the couple’s finances at that time, not a current valuation. A 1990 report referred to the estate, not a verified personal fortune

In 1990, the Los Angeles Times described the Lennon estate as estimated at between $500 million and $1 billion. Asked about that range, Ono said, “I don’t think I have a billion dollars.” The article and response are historical evidence of how uncertain and disputed large wealth estimates were; they do not confirm Ono’s present-day net worth. Read the Los Angeles Times report.

Ono’s personal wealth is not the same as Lennon estate figures

Celebrity Net Worth describes Lennon’s will as establishing a marital share and a trust, and says Ono served as executor and a central trustee and beneficiary. The same publisher reports probate filings of $30 million in New York and $5.5 million in England and Wales, while noting that those amounts did not cover Lennon’s entire worldwide fortune. These are secondary-source descriptions and figures; they are not a complete valuation of the estate or an accounting of Ono’s personal assets. See Celebrity Net Worth’s estimate and account.

The publisher also gives estimates of Lennon estate income for particular years: $22 million in 2005, $12 million in 2011, and $14 million in 2019. Each is a reported annual estate-income estimate for its stated year—not Ono’s personal income or net worth. None should be combined with the probate figures or the current $700 million estimate to produce a new total.

Royalties do not mean Ono owned the Lennon–McCartney catalogue

Celebrity Net Worth says Lennon and Paul McCartney lost control of Northern Songs during the 1960s and sold their remaining shares in 1969, while Lennon’s estate continued to receive songwriter royalties and related income. That is different from saying Ono owned the publishing copyrights to most classic Lennon–McCartney songs. The same source describes estate income channels including solo recordings, Beatles recordings, streaming, licensing, merchandise, documentaries, books, and archival releases.

Ono’s own art and music career is part of the picture

Ono’s wealth story is not only about her role in Lennon’s estate. Sony Music’s profile documents her recorded career, including the 1970 album Yoko Ono / Plastic Ono Band, later releases and remix work, alongside her continuing art practice. Those accomplishments are relevant career context, but the available sources do not provide a breakdown of how much wealth came from her own work versus estate-related interests. See Sony Music’s Yoko Ono profile.

In a PBS American Masters archive interview, Ono discussed inheritance tax and legal issues after Lennon’s death, the complexity of matters involving the Beatles and Lennon’s first family, and her concern for protecting their son. The interview offers context about the responsibilities and complications involved; it does not establish a current valuation. Read the PBS interview transcript.
