When and how Ed Piskor died
Ed Piskor, also known as Edward R. Piskor Jr., died on April 1, 2024. The Comics Journal reported his death at age 41 and said his family confirmed it. 90.5 WESA, the Pittsburgh public-radio station, independently reported the family announcement on April 2, 2024.
The family’s statement was posted on Facebook by Piskor’s sister, Justine Cleaves. WESA quoted her: “It is with the most broken heart that I share my big brother, Ed, has passed away today,” she wrote.
The Comics Journal’s obituary is titled “Ed Piskor, 1982-2024,” which places his birth in 1982, consistent with the reported age of 41.

Who Ed Piskor was
Piskor was an American cartoonist and online broadcaster. His main titles include:
- Hip Hop Family Tree: a 12-issue series tracing the artistic origins and cultural legacy of hip-hop.
- Wizzywig: one of his comics, listed among his notable works in obituary coverage.
- Red Room: another comics project listed among his notable works.
- X-Men: Grand Design: his Marvel project, discussed below.
He also co-hosted Cartoonist Kayfabe, an online broadcast, with fellow Pittsburgh cartoonist Jim Rugg. That show gave him a public role beyond his printed work.

What X-Men: Grand Design is
X-Men: Grand Design is a Marvel project that reworked and synthesized decades of X-Men storylines and lore into a single retelling. Reading X-Men: Grand Design
