The slate mixed established Magic settings, remastered sets, Commander decks, and Universes Beyond crossovers with Fallout, FINAL FANTASY, Assassin’s Creed, and Jurassic World. It was a roadmap at the time, not a release calendar. Several entries carried codenames rather than final titles, and Wizards’ later product listings give official names and dates for 2026 that do not appear in the 2023 announcement.
What Wizards announced at Gen Con 2023
GamesBeat reported on the panel on August 5, 2023, in a piece by Dean Takahashi that was updated on June 18, 2025. Wizards of the Coast’s official press release, dated August 7, 2023, is the primary record of the slate. Both place the announcement at Gen Con, where the company marked 30 years of Magic.
Universes Beyond collaborations
Universes Beyond is Wizards’ label for crossovers that bring fictional settings and characters from other fandoms into Magic’s strategic gameplay. The 2023 announcement named four of them:
- Fallout: ready-to-play Commander decks, planned for March 2024.
- FINAL FANTASY: a tentpole booster release planned for 2025, covering the main games through Final Fantasy XVI and also planned for Magic: The Gathering Arena.
- Assassin’s Creed: named as a collaboration in the announcement, without a format or date in the material available here.
- Jurassic World: named as a collaboration, with the same limitation.
Doctor Who also appeared among the crossover sets in the 2023 roadmap.

- Absolutely NO... Basic lands, Foreign, or silver/gold bordered cards.
- Some may contain Foils or Mythics but not all.
- Sets can range from Beta to the current Magic the Gathering set.

Magic settings, remastered sets and new worlds
The rest of the roadmap combined new and returning Magic products:
- Wilds of Eldraine
- The Lost Caverns of Ixalan
- Murders at Karlov Manor
- Outlaws of Thunder Junction
- Duskmourn: House of Horror
- Ravnica Remastered
- Innistrad Remastered
- Ravnica: Clue Edition
Codenamed entries
Six later entries were listed as codenames: Tennis, Ultimate, Volleyball, Wrestling, Yachting, and Ziplining. The press release marks codenames with an asterisk, which signals that the name is not a final product title. Treat these as placeholders. Do not search for them as products.

The 2023 announcement remains useful as a record of what Wizards said it planned. It is not a reliable guide to what is out now. Before treating any entry as current, check the following:
Rank #4
- FACE YOUR GREATEST TEST YET—The hallowed halls of Strixhaven welcome you back to school! Choose your college of magical study and expand your education in the greater world of Arcavios as you stand against mysterious threats plaguing the plane
- BEST BOOSTERS FOR PLAYING WITH FRIENDS—Play Boosters are the best way to discover what Magic: The Gathering has to offer; they're perfect for building decks, playing Limited games with friends, and are tons of fun to open

- RARE AND FOIL IN EVERY PACK—Each booster contains 1–5 cards of rarity Rare or higher and at least 1 shining Traditional Foil card of any rarity; in 20% of packs you’ll also find a Traditional Foil Land card
- PLAY BOOSTER BOX CONTENTS—30 Secrets of Strixhaven Play Boosters, each containing 14 MTG cards
- Official name. Use the title in Wizards’ current listing, not a codename or the 2023 working name.
- Date. A 2023 date was a plan. The 2026 listing is the reference for timing.
- Format. A Commander deck, a booster release, and a set are different purchases, even when they share a franchise.
- Digital version. The FINAL FANTASY entry was described with an Arena version in 2023. Whether any later release also appears in Arena is a separate question to check in the current listing.
Context: the 30th anniversary and the figures Wizards cited
Wizards framed the panel around Magic’s 30th year. The 2023 press release said Magic had more than 50 million fans and had been published in more than 150 countries. Both figures are Wizards’ own statements from 2023, not current counts.
Bill Rose, global play lead for Magic: The Gathering at Wizards of the Coast, said: “One thing that has remained constant throughout our 30-year history is how much our players love Magic.”
The useful takeaway from the 2023 slate is the structure it revealed. Wizards planned Universes Beyond crossovers alongside its own sets, and it used placeholders for items not yet named. Those 2023 plans were later replaced by official names, so readers should use the current listing for what is available and when.
