Woody Harrelson presented Harrison Ford with SAG-AFTRA’s Life Achievement Award at the 32nd Actor Awards on March 1, 2026. His speech mixed admiration with jokes about himself, Ford’s talents and the audience’s quiet response; Ford then answered with a self-deprecating acceptance speech. The “roast” was affectionate, not evidence of a feud.
What Harrelson said about Harrison Ford
Harrelson introduced Ford as “the timeless American treasure” and his “dear buddy.” He joked, “There’s too much of me in this tribute to Harrison, but I’m an actor, what do you expect?” The Los Angeles Times described the presentation as a tribute to a friend.

Harrelson also recounted meeting Ford over lunch after following him into a sushi restaurant, where they laughed together for several minutes. He framed the award with another joke: “This is a life achievement award and he has lived a full one.”
Why it was called a roast
The jokes were aimed at the occasion, Ford’s many talents and Harrelson himself—not at a personal dispute. The Daily Beast’s account says Harrelson tried jokes about the crowd and Ford’s abilities, as well as his own inability to work a French press. He acknowledged the subdued reaction and kept going. That moment supports describing the room as quiet; it does not establish that every joke failed.

Ford’s acceptance speech answered the jokes
Ford made light of the award’s timing. As his fellow actors were being recognized for nominated work, he said he was there to receive “a prize for being alive.” He also joked that receiving a lifetime achievement award at the “half-point” of his career felt strange because he was still working. The Los Angeles Times reported the remarks from his acceptance speech.
What the award recognizes
SAG-AFTRA’s Life Achievement Award recognizes outstanding achievement in fostering the best ideals of the acting profession, along with a history of humanitarian and public-service involvement. Ford was the award’s 61st recipient, according to the union’s December 18, 2025 announcement.
Rank #2
The union described Ford’s career as spanning six decades. Its announcement also noted earlier honors: the AFI Life Achievement Award in 2000, the Golden Globes’ Cecil B. DeMille Award in 2002 and the Critics Choice Career Achievement Award in 2024. SAG-AFTRA president Sean Astin called Ford “a singular presence in American life; an actor whose iconic characters have shaped world culture.”
