Shark Tank’s season 15 finale was scheduled for May 3, 2024, and it closed the season with four product pitches and a returning guest Shark, Candace Nelson. Whether that made it a bad way to end the season is a matter of opinion. The announced lineup does not show it, and the official materials say nothing about how the episode was received. What is documented is the context that followed: season 16 premiered on October 18, 2024, brought Daniel Lubetzky onto the regular panel, and turned out to be Mark Cuban’s final season.
When season 15 ended
ABC’s April 25, 2024 press release listed episode 1522 as the season 15 finale, airing May 3, 2024. The episode was billed around four entrepreneurs:

- a protein bar with a brain-health mission
- a coffee substitute that does not cause jitters
- organic plant-care products
- an easier way to floss
Candace Nelson was listed as a returning guest Shark. A secondary episode database, TheTVDB, lists the same episode as season 15, episode 22, on May 3, 2024, which matches the date in ABC’s release. ABC’s release is the stronger source for the finale logline.
What “worse terms” could mean
The headline’s claim is an opinion, and it can point to several different things. Each reading needs different evidence:

The pitch lineup
The four announced pitches were all consumer products, a mix of wellness, food, garden care and personal hygiene. If a reader felt the finale lacked a standout business, that is a judgment about the pitches themselves. Checking it requires watching the episode and noting the deal outcomes, which the official announcement does not report.
The guest Shark slot
Candace Nelson’s return as a guest is a fact about the episode’s cast. It does not show whether her presence improved or weakened the finale. Judging that would require the episode itself and some account of how it was received.

The cast transition
The most documented context is the cast change that followed. A season that ends just before a panel change can feel unsettled in hindsight, especially for viewers who knew a larger shake-up was coming. That is a reasonable reading of the timing, but it describes how the season looks in retrospect rather than how the finale played on the night it aired.
What changed in season 16
ABC announced in a September 18, 2024 press release that season 16 would premiere Friday, October 18, 2024, and that Daniel Lubetzky was joining the Shark panel. ABC News reported on September 19, 2024 that Lubetzky would join full-time for Mark Cuban’s final season, and that season 16 episodes would stream on Hulu the day after broadcast. Streaming arrangements change over time, so confirm current availability before you watch.

How the two finales compare
The finales can be set side by side using what ABC has announced. Only the scheduled details are shown, so this table describes announcements rather than episode quality.
| Item | Season 15 finale | Season 16 finale |
|---|---|---|
| Air date (as announced) | May 3, 2024 (ABC release dated April 25, 2024) | May 16, 2025 (ABC release dated April 28, 2025) |
| Episode number in ABC’s release | 1522 | 1620 |
| Announced pitches | Protein bar with a brain-health mission; coffee substitute without jitters; organic plant-care products; easier way to floss | Oversized luxury candles; gourmet deviled eggs; tick-removal mitten; invisible undergarments |
| Guest or panel note | Candace Nelson returning as guest Shark | Mark Cuban’s farewell episode, as described in ABC’s release |
| Viewer or critic reception | Not stated in the official announcement | Not stated in the official announcement |
The table shows that the season 16 finale was the one built around Cuban’s exit. The season 15 finale was not. That difference matters for the headline: the farewell moment came a season later, not at the end of season 15.

Why the “looming” framing is out of date
A headline that says season 16 is “looming” describes the period before October 18, 2024. Season 16 has since aired, and ABC’s April 28, 2025 release set its finale for May 16, 2025. This article covers the season 15 ending and the season 16 transition only. It does not assess later seasons.

- Watch the May 3, 2024 episode on the service that carries it, and confirm current availability first.
- Note each pitch’s outcome, whether a deal was made, and the terms. Deal results are not in the official announcement, so you will need the episode itself.
- Compare the finale’s tone and pacing with an earlier episode from the same season.
- Read reviews published around the airing date, and treat ratings or audience figures as valid only when they name their source and date.
- Decide whether the problem was the episode or the timing of the cast change. Those two readings lead to different conclusions.
The verdict
The available evidence supports the timeline: a May 3, 2024 finale with four pitches and a returning guest Shark, followed by a season 16 that brought in Lubetzky and ended Cuban’s run. It does not support the claim that season 15 ended on worse terms than its predecessors or successors. If you hold that view, it rests on the episode content and the audience response, which are not reported in the official sources cited here. Treat “worse terms” as a reasonable opinion about an announced lineup and a turbulent season transition, not as an established fact about the finale’s quality.
