The “another hurdle” in the original headline was a December 2025 report that the Alaska-set drama had dropped from first place on a global streaming chart. That chart movement was a dated observation, not a renewal decision, and the reporting does not tie it to the cancellation.
What The Last Frontier is
The Last Frontier is an Apple TV drama starring Jason Clarke as U.S. Marshal Frank Remnick, who works in Alaska. The premise begins when a prison transport plane crashes and releases inmates into Remnick’s jurisdiction, and the season follows the manhunt and fallout from that event.

The first and only season premiered on October 10, 2025, and concluded on December 5, 2025. Reporting describes it as a ten-episode season.
What the “hurdle” was
The headline’s reference came from MovieWeb, which reported on December 3, 2025 that the show had fallen from first place on a global chart tracked by FlixPatrol, with Pluribus taking the top position. That is the whole of the “hurdle.” Before reading more into it, keep these limits in mind:
#1 Best Overall
- Factory sealed DVD
- It is a single-date ranking from one third-party tracker, not Apple’s own viewership data.
- No audience totals were verified for that chart report, so it does not show how many people watched the show.
- Chart positions are only comparable within the same tracker, the same geography and the same date. A FlixPatrol position should not be set beside an Apple audience figure as if they measured the same thing.
- The report describes a position on one day. It does not establish a trend or a collapse in interest.
Timeline
| Date | What happened | Reported by |
|---|---|---|
| October 10, 2025 | Season 1 premieres on Apple TV | Apple TV Press series listing |
| December 3, 2025 | Show drops from first place on a global FlixPatrol chart; Pluribus takes the top spot | MovieWeb |
| December 5, 2025 | Season 1 finale airs (ten episodes in total) | Apple TV Press series listing |
| December 19, 2025 | Apple cancels the series after one season; no reason given | The Hollywood Reporter |
Why Apple canceled it
The Hollywood Reporter’s December 19, 2025 report states that Apple did not announce a reason for the cancellation. The chart drop came two weeks earlier, and it is tempting to connect the two. The reporting does not make that connection, so this article does not treat the chart movement as the cause. Any explanation beyond what Apple said publicly would be speculation.
The Yellowstone comparison in the headline
The headline describes the show as an Apple TV replacement for Yellowstone. That is the headline’s framing. The official series listing and the cancellation reports do not establish that Apple positioned the show that way. The Alaska setting and the cast are the show’s own, and the comparison is best read as editorial shorthand rather than a statement of programming intent.

As of October 2026, The Last Frontier remains canceled. The complete run is the one season that aired from October to December 2025, and no continuation has been announced. If you are deciding whether to watch, you are watching a finished, self-contained first season, not a show awaiting a renewal.
