No Dracula Untold sequel is confirmed as of October 8, 2026. Universal has not announced one in any source we could find, and the sequel comments that can be documented date from 2014 and come from the film’s star, not the studio. The accurate status is unconfirmed: the project is not officially cancelled, and it is not documented as in development or in production.
What the 2014 film sets up
Dracula Untold is a 2014 Universal film directed by Gary Shore and starring Luke Evans, Dominic Cooper, Sarah Gadon, and Charles Dance. The story opens in 1462, when Vlad III, prince of Wallachia, makes a Faustian bargain to protect his family and his people after Sultan Mehmed II demands boys for his army. Universal’s title page lists a runtime of 1 hour 33 minutes and a PG-13 rating for intense warfare, vampire attacks, disturbing images, and some sensuality.

The film ends with its protagonist immortal and the story unresolved in a way that invites a continuation. That open ending is the basis for most sequel talk, but an open ending alone is not a production decision.
What Luke Evans said about a sequel
In a 2014 interview with Blackfilm.com, Evans was asked whether a sequel was complete. He answered:

“No, only that we’ve allowed it to have a perfect gateway to, he can go anywhere. Dracula’s immortal, and at the point where the movie finishes, we’re already touching on 500 years. So we’re dealing with a man who’s spent a long time walking, searching in a very lonely existence throughout time. Who knows what’s been through and who knows what he’s going to go to. The options are endless, and I think that’s where we want it to be.”
Read this as an actor describing what the film allows, from a 2014 interview. It is not a current update on development, and it does not say a script or financing existed.

What has been reported since
October 2014: CBS News on Evans’s interest
CBS News reported in October 2014 that Evans would be on board for a possible sequel. That records his personal willingness to return. It is not studio approval, and it did not establish that a film would be made.
February 2026: the most recent report we could find
A Geek Digest article dated February 17, 2026 said Universal had not officially confirmed a sequel at that point. It also described convincing purported sequel trailers circulating online as fan tributes. This is secondary reporting on the rumor environment. It cannot tell us whether Universal announced anything after its publication date, so it does not settle the position as of October 2026.

Why circulating sequel trailers are not evidence
Several videos presenting themselves as Dracula Untold 2 trailers have circulated online. The February 2026 report identified convincing examples of this kind as fan tributes. A trailer should not be treated as proof of a project for these reasons:
- Fan-made concept trailers can be produced by anyone with editing software and borrowed footage.
- A studio announcement would come through its own channels or a production partner, not an unattributed upload.
- A trailer does not show whether a film has been financed, cast, scheduled, or released.
How to check whether a sequel has been announced
If a real announcement appears, compare it against three things before accepting it:
Rank #4
- In this fictionalised recreation of the events leading to the writing of Frankenstein, Russell is in his element reveling in the seething psycho-dramas, the fetid atmosphere of sexual abandon, menacing candlelight and decaying flesh. An entertainment rollercoaster of a ride.
- The source: Universal’s official channels or a named production partner carry more weight than entertainment press repeating a rumor, and far more than an anonymous fan account.
- The date: Check when the report was published, and whether it reflects an announcement or a retrospective comment.
- The stage stated: Distinguish development, production, casting, and a dated release. A report of a writer or a star’s interest is none of these.
None of the sources reviewed explains why a follow-up has not been made, so any explanation for the gap would be speculation.
