Yes. HBO has officially renewed IT: Welcome to Derry for a second season. The renewal was announced on August 17, 2026, and HBO’s press office updated the announcement on August 25, 2026. The announcement confirms that season two moves to 1935 and centers on a fictional storyline about the Bradley Gang. It does not give a premiere date, and the trade coverage from August 2026 did not announce season-two casting.
What HBO has officially confirmed
The renewal is the controlling fact here. It comes from HBO’s official press announcement, not from a creator’s comment or an industry rumor. Variety reported on August 18, 2026 that a writers’ room had been working before the formal announcement, but the network’s release is the confirmation readers should cite.

What season two is about
According to HBO’s season-two logline, the new season is set in 1935, during the Great Depression. It centers on what the network describes as the bloody massacre of the Bradley Gang, a group of bank robbers who stop in Derry to buy ammunition and run into horror.
The Bradley Gang storyline is fictional. It belongs to the series’ invented history of Derry and should not be read as a documented historical event. The shift to 1935 also means season two is a prequel-style look at the town, continuing the series’ focus on how Derry’s violence and fear were established long before the events of the Losers’ Club. The Warner Bros. Television regional release quotes Clancy Collins White, President, Creative Affairs, who described the new season as a frightening journey into the 1930s.

Who is making season two
- Brad Caleb Kane will serve as season-two showrunner. He was a co-showrunner on season one alongside Jason Fuchs.
- Andy and Barbara Muschietti remain executive producers.
Sarah Aubrey, Head of HBO Max Original Programming, said in the English-language renewal announcement: “We are excited to return to the chilling world of Derry and to further expand on Andy and Barbara Muschietti’s horrifically iconic adaptation.”
What is still unannounced
- Premiere date or release window: Neither the renewal announcement nor the August 2026 coverage gives a date or window. Any year or season schedule you see before HBO publishes one is a guess.
- Season-two cast: Variety reported on August 18, 2026 that casting had not yet been announced. That is a dated status. Check HBO’s official channels for later casting news, because this article reflects reporting from August 2026.
Season one and where to watch
HBO’s announcement says season one has eight episodes and is available on HBO Max. Streaming catalogs vary by country, so check your local HBO Max listings before assuming access. The series is based on Stephen King’s novel It and expands the vision established by Andy Muschietti’s two films, It and It Chapter Two.

How to read HBO’s viewership claim
HBO also said IT: Welcome to Derry ranked among the four most watched global series launches in HBO Max history. Attribute it as a network-reported ranking: HBO / Max, 2026. The announcement does not provide a viewership total, a comparison methodology, or a measurement window, so it should not be treated as an independent audience count.
