Will Ferrell made a surprise appearance as Anchorman character Ron Burgundy during Netflix’s live Tom Brady roast on May 5, 2024. Burgundy teased Brady and host Kevin Hart, including a jab that invoked Eli Manning. The appearance was part of a roast special—not a new Anchorman project.

Ferrell entered in character as Burgundy, complete with the character’s trademark mustache and suede jacket. Netflix summarized the bit as Burgundy saying he “hates” Brady while getting “lost” in the quarterback’s eyes. The character also teased Hart.
What Ron Burgundy said about Tom Brady
TVLine reported Burgundy’s jab at Brady: “Your best years are behind you, Tom. The Super Bowls, Gisele, your movie career, it’s all done, it’s all gone. But you won’t be forgotten, you’ll always be remembered as Eli Manning’s bitch.”

#1 Best Overall
The joke drew on Brady’s football career, his public relationship history and the rivalry with Manning. It is a line delivered by Burgundy, the fictional character Ferrell played—not a statement attributed to Ferrell speaking out of character.
Netflix described Brady as having won seven Super Bowls over 23 seasons in its 2024 coverage of the event. That is career context from the time of the roast, not an updated statistic.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Why the appearance was an Anchorman reunion moment
Ron Burgundy is Ferrell’s character from the 2004 comedy Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy and its 2013 sequel, as TVLine identifies him. His surprise entrance brought the character into a live roast setting, where Burgundy’s overconfident persona could needle Brady and Hart. It did not announce a new film or standalone Burgundy special.
