Snooki left Jersey Shore: Family Vacation because filming meant time away from her three children and an emotionally exhausting atmosphere of cast drama. She later returned for cast events and, by season five, was officially back in the cast—with a stated limit on how long she wanted to be away from her kids.
Why did Snooki leave Jersey Shore: Family Vacation?
Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi announced in December 2019 that she would not return for a potential fourth season. She later explained that the decision came from both family logistics and the emotional toll of filming—not from one incident alone.

Leaving her children was difficult
In a February 27, 2020 interview with Entertainment Tonight, Polizzi said that having three children made leaving for filming “really, really hard.” She also said she did not want to leave them to enter an environment where she felt upset by ongoing drama. Read the interview with Entertainment Tonight.
The cast drama had become emotionally heavy
The fallout from Angelina Pivarnick’s wedding was part of the strain. Polizzi, Jenni Farley and Deena Cortese gave a speech at the wedding that Pivarnick took badly; the argument escalated. In a June 15, 2021 interview, Polizzi said the speech was not intended maliciously, but its aftermath snowballed into drama. She described herself as non-confrontational and said the situation felt intense.

Looking back on her decision, she said, “I just needed a break in general just because I feel like it got really heavy with the drama.” Read her 2021 interview with Entertainment Tonight.
Did Snooki disappear from the show immediately?
No. Her announcement concerned a potential future season, not episodes that had already been filmed. In February 2020, Farley said the season then airing had been filmed before Polizzi made her decision. That distinction matters: announcing she would not return for the next season did not mean she was absent from every episode after the announcement.

What brought Snooki back?
She returned for cast events first
By June 2021, Polizzi had appeared at cast events, including Mike Sorrentino’s sobriety celebration and a baby shower. She told Entertainment Tonight that producers invited her and that she felt she could not miss those occasions.
She set a limit on time away from her children
Polizzi said she was open to filming, but not to being away from her kids for an extended stretch: “I’m willing to shoot as much as I can, I just can’t be away from my kids for more than three days.” That was her personal limit, not a general production rule.

MTV announced her official cast return for season five
Appearing at individual events came before MTV’s formal announcement. On September 2, 2021, MTV described season five as Polizzi’s official return to the cast. See MTV’s season-five announcement.
