Why did Snoop Dogg marry Shante?
In a 2013 interview with The Guardian, Snoop said he married Shante because he loved her and appreciated that she stood by him and their children. He described their relationship as enduring the pressures and changes that came with his career and life.

He has also spoken about the depth of that attachment. In a 2011 Guardian interview, he said, “I fell in love with her and I can’t fall out of love with her,” and called her “the strongest person in my life because she’s my backbone.” Those comments explain his own perspective; they do not establish Shante’s private reasons for marrying or recommitting to him.
What did he say he realized about his family?
In a TV One interview reported by the Los Angeles Sentinel, Snoop reflected that he had chased his dream and put it ahead of his wife without recognizing what he considered his real dream: having a family. His account frames the vow renewal as a recommitment after recognizing what his career ambitions had led him to neglect.

The explanation is his own, rather than a joint account from the couple. The available coverage does not establish Shante’s stated reasons for choosing to renew their vows.
Were there two weddings?
No: the timeline commonly reported is a 1997 marriage and a 2008 renewal of vows, not two separate weddings. They were high-school sweethearts who met while students at Long Beach Polytechnic High School, according to TV Insider. Snoop filed for divorce in 2004, but in a 2005 interview with The Guardian he said he did not really want a divorce and acknowledged that ego and his position could affect his judgment.

The later vow renewal followed that difficult period. The distinction matters: “married twice” can imply two separate marriages, while the reported history is one marriage followed by a renewed commitment.
