Rife later offered a more specific, but still broad, explanation. In a 2023 interview, he said he had spoken from personal experience and concluded that he and Beckinsale “weren’t the most compatible match,” as Us Weekly quoted from his interview with Elle. That is his characterization of their compatibility, not a detailed account of the relationship’s private difficulties.
Why did Rife tell Pete Davidson to “run”?
In March 2019, after Beckinsale was linked to Davidson, Rife told TMZ to “run” as advice to the comedian. In the same exchange, he said he hoped the pair would be happy. His warning came after his relationship with Beckinsale, and he later said it reflected his own experience rather than a complete or authoritative judgment of their relationship.

In 2023, Rife said he regretted the comment and apologized to both Davidson and Beckinsale: “I shouldn’t have said that,” he said, according to Us Weekly.
How long were they together?
The public accounts do not settle on a precise timeline. An August 2017 Us Weekly report, citing unnamed sources, said the romance had “fizzled out” after a few dates. Rife later described the relationship as lasting a year in his 2019 interview. Those accounts differ, so it is more accurate to attribute the year-long duration to Rife than to treat it as a confirmed timeline.

What is known about their relationship now?
In January 2025, Beckinsale’s representative described the two as friendly exes who were talking and laughing at a Golden Globes party. The representative also denied reports that they had kissed, according to Us Weekly. That account speaks to their reported interaction at the event; it does not add an explanation of their past relationship.
