Spoilers for X-Men ’97 season 1, episode 6, “Lifedeath – Part 2.” Storm overcomes the fear that has kept her from her powers and takes flight again. On the Shi’ar homeworld, Charles Xavier refuses to give up the X-Men and decides to return to Earth after learning Genosha has been attacked. In the closing scene, Mr. Sinister pursues Bolivar Trask and says the attack was only the beginning of his plans. The episode sets up Xavier’s return and a wider threat; it does not show him rejoining the team or reveal Sinister’s full scheme.
What happens at the end of “Lifedeath – Part 2”?
The episode brings three storylines to a turning point: Storm regains her powers, Xavier chooses his ties to the X-Men over a life in the Shi’ar Empire, and Sinister hints at further plans after the attack on Genosha. These are resolutions in direction, not all in action: Storm’s recovery happens on screen, while Xavier’s journey home and the details of Sinister’s scheme remain ahead.
How does Storm get her powers back?
The Adversary turns Storm’s fears against her as she tries to help the injured Forge. Among them are claustrophobia and the belief that she is no longer fully herself without her mutant abilities. Forge intervenes, but Storm still has to confront the cave’s darkness and confinement herself.
When she pushes through that fear, her powers return. She emerges flying in her familiar black costume. The sequence is both a literal recovery of her abilities and, as an interpretation, a reclaiming of agency: Storm moves forward by facing the fears that have been holding her back. The episode then shifts that private victory into a wider crisis when a news broadcast brings the attack on Genosha to her and Forge’s attention.

Why does Xavier decide to return to Earth?
Charles is living with Empress Lilandra and is expected to take part in her rule. Deathbird challenges whether he belongs in that future and presses him to renounce his past on Earth. Xavier will not abandon the X-Men.
During a psychic lesson for the Shi’ar, a vision of Gambit and the dead overwhelms him. He realizes something terrible has happened on Earth; after learning of the attack on Genosha, he says he must return to the X-Men. The closing decision is not a reunion: this episode does not show Xavier arriving back with the team.
Rank #2
The Shi’ar scenes also place his choice in a political context. Xavier criticizes an empire that demands assimilation and submission, even as he refuses to erase his own bonds to the X-Men. The parallel with Storm is not that their experiences are identical, but that both arcs turn on the choice to face a crisis without surrendering who they are.
What does Mr. Sinister want with Trask?
In the final tag, Bolivar Trask is fleeing when Mr. Sinister appears. Sinister says that Genosha was only the beginning of his plans. The scene connects him to the threat that has just unfolded and signals that he intends something larger, but it does not explain the complete plan or establish every detail of Trask’s role.

It is reasonable to expect the threat to continue, but any more specific account of Sinister’s intentions or Trask’s involvement would be speculation based on this episode alone.
What the ending resolves—and what it leaves open
- Resolved: Storm confronts her fears, regains her powers and returns to flight.
- Decided, not completed: Xavier chooses to return to the X-Men, but has not yet arrived back with them.
- Teased, not explained: Sinister links the Genosha attack to a larger plan without laying out its full scope.
