Whoopi Goldberg stood up from her seat on The View on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, and walked across the studio to show how then-Vice President Kamala Harris entered the stage at the previous evening’s presidential debate with Donald Trump. She used the walk to argue that Harris looked confident before she said a word.
What happened on the September 11, 2024 episode
The debate took place on Tuesday, September 10, 2024. The next morning, during the show’s recap, Goldberg got up from the table and acted out Harris’s entrance: the walk onto the stage, the opening interaction with Trump, and the handshake. The segment was political commentary about the candidates’ performance, not a formal debate analysis or a fact-check.

The clearest account of the moment comes from an Entertainment Weekly report dated September 11, 2024, which AOL republished. That report says Goldberg praised Harris’s debate performance and singled out the confidence her walk and opening exchange projected.
The gesture Goldberg reenacted
Goldberg’s demonstration focused on body language rather than policy. Her point was that Harris’s bearing communicated something before the debate’s substance began. Because the reenactment was physical, the segment is easier to describe than to transcribe: she left her chair, crossed the set, and performed the entrance for her co-hosts and the audience.

Goldberg also criticized Trump’s debate strategy and praised Harris’s answers during the same recap. Those judgments are hers, offered as opinion on a live talk show, and should be read as such.
What Goldberg said
The Entertainment Weekly report quotes Goldberg explaining the walk with this line: “Now this may not be what was coming out of her mouth, but this is what her body was saying.” Earlier in the segment, the same report quotes her assessment of the debate as “Clearly, Vice President Harris kicked some butt.”

Both lines are reported quotations as printed in that article. A full ABC transcript of this exact segment was not available for this write-up, so readers who need word-for-word accuracy should check the broadcast or a transcript before quoting her at length.
Goldberg also described the debate as likely the candidates’ only presidential debate. That was her expectation at the time, not a confirmed statement about future debate scheduling.

How the debate week fit into The View’s coverage
The September 11 recap was one of several debate-related segments the show ran in the days after the event. ABC’s own announcement dated September 23, 2024, described Joe Biden’s September 25 appearance on The View as his first interview since the ABC News presidential debate. That announcement shows the show’s debate-week programming, but it says nothing about the September 11 segment itself.

ABC’s general video pages for The View publish episodes and clips, but the listings available for this piece did not confirm that this specific 2024 segment is still posted. When you read or share the clip, separate two things: the demonstration itself, which is a matter of what viewers saw, and the hosts’ conclusions about the candidates, which are opinion. Goldberg’s reading that Harris’s confidence came through in her walk is a commentary framing, not a neutral measurement of either candidate.
