The answer depends on which Sonic continuity you mean. In the original Archie Comics continuity, Sonic’s parents are Jules Hedgehog and Bernadette “Bernie” Hedgehog. In Sonic Underground, his mother is Queen Aleena, and Sonia and Manic are his siblings. The available evidence does not establish Jules and Bernadette as the parents of Sonic in the main video-game continuity.
Who are Sonic’s parents in the Archie comics?
In the original Archie Comics continuity, Sonic’s father is Jules Hedgehog and his mother is Bernadette Hedgehog, usually called Bernie. Archie Sonic #79 centers on Bernie recounting the family’s history; character references also identify Jules and Bernadette as Sonic’s father and mother, respectively. Grand Comics Database’s Archie Sonic #79 record summarizes the issue, while the fan-maintained Jules Hedgehog and Bernadette Hedgehog entries give the character identifications.
What happened to Jules and Bernie?
The issue’s catalog synopsis says Jules was under the cybernetic control of Warlord Julian, who forcibly roboticized Bernie. It also says that their son Sonic ended up in the care of Chuck. These events belong to the Archie story; they should not be read as the backstory of every version of Sonic.
Who is Sonic’s mother in Sonic Underground?
In the television series Sonic Underground, Queen Aleena is Sonic’s mother. The series also gives him two siblings, Sonia and Manic. That is a separate continuity from the Archie comics, so Aleena’s family story does not replace Jules and Bernie’s roles in Archie. A secondary series reference describes the Sonic Underground family.

Are Jules and Bernadette Sonic’s parents in the video games?
The reviewed sources do not confirm Jules and Bernadette as the parents of the main-game Sonic. Their Archie identities cannot be carried over to the games just because the character names are the same. The evidence available here does not establish a definitive parent identity for game-continuity Sonic, so the careful answer is that his parents are not identified by these sources.
Where can you read the Archie story?
Archie Sonic #79 is the issue associated with Bernie’s account of the family’s history. The Grand Comics Database record links that issue to a reprint in Sonic the Hedgehog Archives #21. Archie Comics has also described its Sonic Archives collected-edition line; for example, its solicitation for Volume 25 says it collects issues #92–95. The issue record is useful for locating the reprint, and Archie Comics’ Volume 25 solicitation confirms the series of collected editions. Current availability may vary by retailer.

Why do answers about Sonic’s family differ?
Sonic stories have multiple continuities across comics, television, and games. A character’s family in one version is not automatically part of another version’s canon. When an answer names Sonic’s parents, it should identify the specific series or medium: Jules and Bernie for Archie, Queen Aleena for Sonic Underground, and no parent identity established here for the main games. A secondary overview of Sonic continuities outlines the distinction.
