In Daredevil’s comics, the White Tiger is Hector Ayala, the man Daredevil defends in a murder case he did not commit. “White Tiger” is also a title passed between several characters, so the name can refer to someone else depending on which story or era you mean. This guide separates the Daredevil storyline from the later legacy and shows where each holder fits.
The White Tiger Daredevil is linked to
Hector Ayala is the White Tiger at the center of Daredevil’s client story. Marvel’s reading list describes Hector being accused and convicted of murder, and Daredevil working to clear his client’s name. Marvel’s 2025 Marvel Multiverse Role-Playing Game profile goes further: it says Daredevil cleared Hector’s name and that Hector was falsely accused of killing a police officer. The two summaries describe the same legal arc from different points, so the safest reading is that Hector was wrongly convicted and that Daredevil’s work on his behalf is the core of the story.

Why the name points to more than one character
White Tiger is a mantle tied to the Tiger Amulets rather than a single fixed identity. Three characters are central to the name:
| Holder | Connection to the Daredevil story | Place in the mantle’s history | Source for the claim |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hector Ayala | Daredevil’s client in the murder case | First White Tiger named in the Daredevil story; the amulets are first tied to him in the role-playing profile | Marvel reading list (2025 listing); Marvel Multiverse Role-Playing Game profile (© 2025) |
| Angela del Toro | Hector’s niece; not a client in the case | Inherits the amulets after Hector’s death, before Ava acquires them | Marvel character profile for Ava Ayala; Marvel role-playing profile; Grand Comics Database indexes her White Tiger identity in Daredevil (1998) #69 |
| Ava Ayala | Not stated in the Daredevil story sources reviewed | Later holder of the White Tiger identity, after Angela | Marvel character profile for Ava Ayala; Marvel listing for White Tiger: Reborn (2025) #1 |
Treat Angela and Ava as later holders of the same mantle rather than as alternate names for Hector. Marvel’s official profile of Ava describes Angela inheriting the amulets before Ava acquires them.

The Tiger Amulets and the suit
In Marvel’s fictional lore, Hector finds ancient extradimensional Tiger Amulets that give the wearer martial-arts mastery, a white-tiger suit, and claws. The role-playing profile also says Hector’s family suffered tragedy before the amulets came to him. These powers are story elements within Marvel’s fiction and should not be read as real-world claims.
Where to start reading
- For the Daredevil connection: Start with the storyline in which Hector is accused, convicted, and defended by Daredevil. Marvel’s reading list is the most direct official guide to that arc.
- For the later legacy: Read Marvel’s character history for Ava Ayala, which traces the amulets from Hector through Angela to Ava.
- For a current Ava-centered story: White Tiger: Reborn (2025) #1 is Marvel’s listed issue about Ava returning to protect the innocent and facing a mystery connected to her family and the mantle, including Hector. It is a legacy story rather than the Daredevil courtroom arc.
How to tell which White Tiger someone means
Three questions usually settle the ambiguity:
- Which story? A Daredevil courtroom story points to Hector. Later team or solo stories may feature Angela or Ava.
- Who is wearing the amulets? The answer depends on the holder at that point in the mantle’s history.
- Which era or publication? Checking the issue and year, not just the name, prevents mixing up holders.
The Grand Comics Database is useful for tracking which issues credit each holder, while Marvel’s official pages are the better source for the current story premise.

What the sources do not settle
The sources reviewed do not give publication-level sales or readership figures for these characters, and none includes a quotation from a named creator on this question. Marvel’s own pages were the primary source for the premises above, but several were only available as indexed summaries, so details of individual issues should be checked against the current Marvel listing before you rely on them for a citation.
In short, if someone asks about Daredevil’s White Tiger, the answer is Hector Ayala. If they mean the mantle more broadly, the correct answer depends on which holder and which story they have in mind.
