No official source settles this matchup. Archie Sonic and Ultra Instinct Goku come from different franchises, and the published material on each does not give a like-for-like measure of speed, power, or durability. The most defensible answer is conditional: Goku’s automatic reactions make a clean hit hard for Sonic to land, while Sonic’s speed and Chaos Emerald transformation give him a real route to victory if he can finish the fight before his power runs out. Who wins depends on rules that no source defines.
Which versions are being compared
Archie Sonic
“Archie Sonic” means Sonic as he appears in Archie Comics’ Sonic the Hedgehog comic line. It does not mean the modern video game Sonic or the IDW comic continuity, which have their own feats, rules, and transformations. Archie’s publisher listing for July 2014 identifies its Sonic comic stories, and its preview for the Sonic the Hedgehog and Mega Man crossover describes Sonic undoing damage and returning his world to normal. That preview is promotional. It is a summary of a story, not a record of combat output or a list of limits.
MUI Goku
“MUI Goku” is fan shorthand for Goku in mastered Ultra Instinct from Dragon Ball Super. The Dragon Ball Official Site’s article on Goku in Dragon Ball Legends, dated 22 March 2022, describes Ultra Instinct -Sign- as an incomplete version of the technique used by the gods. It says Sign cannot be maintained for long because of its imperfect nature. Sign and completed Ultra Instinct are not interchangeable, and the source does not describe the anime feats of completed MUI in detail. Any claim about mastered MUI’s abilities should be read as fan-level interpretation unless it cites a specific anime scene.
What the sources establish about Super Sonic
SEGA’s official Super Sonic character profile on Sonic Channel says Sonic transforms by receiving the power of the seven Chaos Emeralds. In that form he gains abilities far beyond his normal state and can fly. The profile also says the form consumes energy so quickly that Sonic can stay transformed only briefly. It gives no numeric duration, and it is not specific to the Archie continuity. Any exact time limit you see online is a fan estimate and should be labeled that way.

What the sources establish about Ultra Instinct
The Dragon Ball Official Site article establishes two points. First, Sign is incomplete and cannot be held for long. Second, Goku’s Ultra Instinct is associated with automatic reactions, which the article explains through a Dragon Ball Legends game mechanic: automatic evasion against Strike or Blast attacks. That mechanic describes how the character plays in a game. It is not an anime feat, and it should not be used to prove that completed MUI in the show dodges everything automatically.
Comparing the four axes that matter
A fair comparison looks at four things: movement and reaction speed, demonstrated attack output and durability, special abilities and counters, and form duration and stamina. The table below shows what each source actually supports. Where a value is not stated, the cell says so rather than filling in a guess.

| Axis | Archie Sonic | MUI Goku | What the evidence supports |
|---|---|---|---|
| Movement and reaction speed | Known for high speed; no numeric measure in the Archie publisher material (2014 listing and crossover preview) | Automatic reactions are associated with Ultra Instinct; the cited evasion is a Legends game mechanic (Official Site, 22 March 2022) | Goku’s reactions are a defensive edge in principle; neither side has a measured speed comparison |
| Attack output and durability | Not stated in the cited Archie material | Not stated for completed MUI in the cited official material | No comparable output or durability figure exists in the sources |
| Special abilities and counters | Chaos Emerald transformation: greater power and flight (SEGA, Super Sonic profile) | Ultra Instinct -Sign- is incomplete; automatic evasion appears only in the game (Official Site) | Sonic’s transformation is documented; Goku’s counters for the anime are not documented in these sources |
| Form duration and stamina | Transformation lasts only briefly; no time given (SEGA) | Sign cannot be maintained for long; completed MUI duration not stated (Official Site) | Both forms have limits, but no source gives a duration that can be compared |
Assumptions that decide the outcome
Most online verdicts depend on assumptions that are never stated. Four matter most:
- Transformation access. Does Sonic start with all seven Chaos Emeralds? Without them, the Super Sonic window never opens and the fight becomes a question of base speed against a fully reactive opponent.
- Starting distance. A fight that begins at close range favors whoever can strike first. A fight that begins at long range gives Sonic time to build speed and gives Goku time to react.
- Intent. Whether each fighter is bloodlusted changes the goal. A fight to subdue is different from a fight to kill.
- Feat rules. Whether the comparison uses only sourced story feats, or fan-made tiers and calculations, can reverse the result.
How the fight could go
Sonic ends it fast
If Sonic has the Emeralds and can close distance quickly, his best path is a short fight. The transformation is energy-intensive and short-lived, so a long fight works against him. This scenario favors Sonic only if Goku’s reactions do not allow him to land the first decisive hit. The sources do not establish that they would not.

Goku’s reactions hold
If Goku reacts before Sonic’s attacks arrive, Sonic may struggle to land a clean strike at all. Automatic defense is the clearest advantage the sources describe for Goku. But that advantage is documented in a game mechanic, so the anime version of the same reaction, and whether it covers every attack type, is not established here.
Sonic runs out of time
If Sonic cannot finish the fight while transformed, the match turns against him. The SEGA profile says the form is short-lived, but gives no number. The outcome after the transformation ends depends on Sonic’s base abilities against an opponent who may still be in a superior state, and no source compares those two.

Claims to leave out
- Limitless speed or unconditional invulnerability for Archie Sonic. The Archie material gives no primary issue-level evidence for these.
- Unrestricted reality rewriting for Sonic. The crossover preview describes undoing damage in one story. It does not define a power scale.
- Completed MUI as unable to be hit. The sources describe reactions, not invulnerability.
- Game evasion as an anime feat.
- Any exact transformation time for Super Sonic.
Verdict
Under neutral conditions, with Sonic fully transformed at the start and both fighters bloodlusted, Goku’s automatic reactions give him the stronger defense, while Sonic’s speed gives him the stronger opening. The available sources do not decide which advantage is larger. If the fight is tightly defined, with stated rules and specific story feats, the result could be different. Without those rules, the honest answer is that the sources support a discussion, not a winner.
