Within the story, the Wizomania performers recount how the Wizard came to Oz and explain the Grimmerie. Menzel and Chenoweth share a musical moment with Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, the film’s Elphaba and Glinda.
Stephen Schwartz’s brief appearance
Schwartz, who wrote the musical’s music and lyrics, appears briefly as a palace guard near the end of the sequence, according to TIME.

Why the cameos connect the film to the stage musical
The musical is based on Gregory Maguire’s novel, with a book by Winnie Holzman and music and lyrics by Schwartz. Its story revisits Oz from another point of view, following the relationship between two young women whom the world calls “good” and “Wicked.” The official Wicked story page describes the premise this way: “Wicked looks at what happened in the Land of Oz—but from a different angle.”
Menzel and Chenoweth’s appearances make that stage-to-screen connection visible: the actors who first played the central roles on Broadway appear in the film’s Oz, while Erivo and Grande lead the movie as the characters.

Are Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande in Wicked on Broadway?
No. Broadway.com’s Wicked FAQ says Erivo and Grande star in the film adaptation, not the Broadway production. A film role does not establish who is performing in the live company. For current Broadway casting and performance information, check the show’s official cast page and official ticket page, since company rosters and schedules can change.
