The one production-provided arrangement reported is glam for interview days, when cast members sit on the sofa and speak to the camera. Readers asking “who exactly is paying for all of that?” or “who pays for the makeup artists, hair stylists, and fashion stylists?” get the same outline: the cast pays, with that interview-day exception. What the reporting does not establish is a reliable season-long total for any cast member.
The interview-day exception
The clearest production account comes from Adam DiVello, the show’s creator, as reported by ELLE Australia in 2022 from his interview with Variety. He said: “The only days that we provide glam are on interview days where they sit on the sofa and talk to the camera.” The quote is a secondary report of a primary interview, so it reflects the Variety conversation as ELLE Australia relayed it.
DiVello also described day-to-day clothing and accessories as personal style choices that production did not want to supply. The exception is therefore narrow. It covers the sit-down interview segments, not the filming days in between, and it is not a statement that production funds glam for every scene.

In a TikTok quoted by Women’s Health in 2023, Lazkani said: “On Selling Sunset, we definitely turn it up for y’all … so we get glam to film, for the most part, every single time, and it is out of our own pockets.”

In a separate TikTok quoted by Dexerto in 2023, she said: “We do not get a wardrobe or glam budget. This is very standard in reality TV… You come as you please.” That second statement is the most direct cast account that the show does not fund a wardrobe allowance.
Emma Hernan
Speaking on a podcast reported by Us Weekly in 2025, Hernan said: “You have to pay for glam, styling and everything yourself.” She also said cast members are paid for each episode they appear in. That pay is a separate point from glam costs. Her comments do not show that episode pay reimburses glam or styling.

Asked by The Washington Post in 2023 whether the show helps with wardrobe costs, Tiesi answered “Absolutely not,” adding: “They don’t help us with anything.”

Several numbers circulate in coverage of the show. They describe different things, and none is a season-wide bill for each cast member.

Wardrobe arrangements vary by person
The Washington Post reported that most interviewed cast members used stylists. Some rented clothing through stylists or showrooms. Lazkani, by contrast, said she bought her own clothing and did not use a stylist. Costs therefore depend on the individual and on the look.

- A season-long total. No reliable calculation of what any cast member spends across a season was found.
- Whether episode pay offsets glam costs. Hernan’s comments describe per-episode pay and personal glam costs side by side; they do not say how the two interact.
- Brand relationships, loans, gifts, or discounts. The reporting does not show whether any of these offset an individual’s costs, in either direction.
- Current arrangements. The most recent cast account located dates to 2025, and the production account dates to 2022. No later production statement was found, so the picture is as of those dates.
The reporting describes what cast members pay and how costs are structured. It does not rate those costs as excessive, and it does not show that they are reimbursed anywhere in the production budget.
