In 2015, Martin and her friend Leisa Weaver began appearing on the BET reality series According to Alex, according to LA Opera. A November 2015 report by TheGrio described the show as following Martin and her family. What is known about her family?
The HistoryMakers’ biography of Goldberg says she has one daughter and three grandchildren. Its interview finding aid identifies Alex Martin as the daughter of Goldberg and Alvin Martin, who soon divorced; the interview with Goldberg took place on October 5, 2016. The HistoryMakers’ Whoopi Goldberg biography documents that family connection.
A November 2015 archived report about According to Alex named Martin’s children at that time as Amara, Jerzey, and Mason. Those names are a dated report, not confirmation of the family’s present circumstances. The archived article in the Florida Digital Newspaper Library provides that period snapshot.
