What is her title and public status now?
Ferguson was widely known as the Duchess of York after her marriage. A September 2026 report by The Independent said she stopped using the courtesy title after Andrew agreed to cease using his peerage titles, and reported that the King stripped both of their titles. The report does not cite a primary legal instrument establishing the precise legal status, so the change is best understood here as reported title usage rather than a detailed account of its legal effect. The Independent’s report also said a spokesperson denied that Ferguson was close to signing a multimillion-dollar tell-all deal and said she had no plans to write one.

In February 2026, the Associated Press reported that Sarah’s Trust said Ferguson and its trustees had agreed the charity would close for the foreseeable future. The statement came amid renewed attention to released emails concerning her past association with Jeffrey Epstein, including reporting that the emails showed continued contact after Epstein’s 2008 conviction. The charity’s stated decision and the surrounding reporting should not be treated as proof of a particular motive or as a legal finding against Ferguson.
For context, the AP report quotes the trust saying it would “shortly close for the foreseeable future.” ABC also reported the closure and changes to Ferguson’s public profile in February 2026: ABC’s account.
