Sinclair initially pursued acting. A 2019 Vogue profile describes his later work as chiefly writing and notes that he had also been described as a novelist. The sources establish his background, but do not provide a complete biography or a full accounting of his writing credits.
How did Olivia Colman and Ed Sinclair meet?
They met in Cambridge in the 1990s, in the orbit of student theatre and the Cambridge Footlights. Sinclair was studying law; Colman was at a teacher-training college in Cambridge and became involved in student productions. Colman clarified in a 2023 interview that she did not attend Cambridge University: she joined its acting troupe using a student card. British Vogue’s 2023 interview with Colman recounts that distinction.

Colman recalled the encounter in a 2010 interview: “My husband. I fell in love. Amazing.” The Guardian’s 2010 interview provides her early account. Neither that interview nor her later rounded description of their relationship establishes an exact first-meeting year.
When did they marry, and how long have they been together?
A 2025 Woman & Home profile reports that Colman and Sinclair married in 2001. In 2023, Colman described their relationship as 30 years long, a rounded recollection rather than an exact anniversary calculation. She also called Sinclair “my best friend” and said, “I know I’m very, very lucky.” Woman & Home’s 2025 profile reports the wedding year; Colman’s British Vogue interview includes her remarks about their relationship.

Do Olivia Colman and Ed Sinclair have children?
They have three children. In her 2023 interview, Colman referred to two teenagers and an eight-year-old at that time. A 2017 profile noted that she had asked for her young sons not to be named. In 2023, Colman said the family had moved from Peckham to the countryside during lockdown. She explained that paparazzi attention had made the school run frightening.
