Dierks Bentley’s wife is Cassidy Black, who is often called Cassidy Bentley in public. Dierks has said the couple knew each other as teenagers, lost touch, reconnected in 2005, and eloped in Mexico that same year. They have three children. Nearly all of the personal history available publicly comes from Dierks’s own interviews, so this article separates his recollections from dated reporting and notes where the record stops.
What name she uses publicly
Cassidy Black is the name that appears in coverage of the couple, and “Cassidy Bentley” is the name commonly used for her in public. The sources reviewed for this article do not establish her legal name, so the married surname is best treated as the name she is known by rather than a documented legal fact. The album Black is connected to her maiden name in a 2016 interview with The Guardian (May 24, 2016), in which Dierks explained that the title draws on it.

How they met and reconnected
The couple’s timeline comes mainly from a 2015 Glamour interview with Dierks (conducted by Jessica Radloff and published May 26, 2015), supplemented by later interviews. The key dated points are below.
| When | What Dierks has said happened | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Eighth grade, around age 13 | They met and became part of a shared group of friends. Dierks said they dated on and off as teenagers. | Glamour, May 26, 2015 |
| Years after their teenage period | They lost touch. Dierks recalled that Cassidy was living in San Francisco and working in advertising while he was in Nashville. This is his recollection from 2015 and is not evidence of her work today. | Glamour, May 26, 2015 |
| February 5, 2005 | Cassidy attended his Las Vegas show, where he was opening for George Strait. He says he knew at that point that she was the one. | Glamour, May 26, 2015 |
| Late 2005 | The couple eloped in Mexico. ABC News later reported that they married in 2005. | Glamour, May 26, 2015; ABC News, July 23, 2021 |
The middle school connection
Dierks has placed the start of the relationship at Ingleside Middle School. In an interview with City Lifestyle (Chandler, Arizona), he said, “Cass and I met at Ingleside Middle School; I had a crush on her.” The Glamour interview gives the eighth-grade timeline in his words: “I’ve known my wife since we were 13 years old in eighth grade.” Together, the two accounts agree on the setting and the age, though neither describes the friendship in detail.

Why the gap matters for the story
The years between the teenage friendship and the 2005 reunion are the part of the story Dierks has described least precisely. What he has consistently said is that the two went separate ways and that their paths crossed again when he was performing in Las Vegas. Readers should treat the advertising detail as one piece of his recollection, not as a verified description of Cassidy’s career.
Their three children
Dated reporting identifies three children:
- Evalyn, known as Evie
- Jordan
- Knox
ABC News reported in July 2021 that the children were then 12, 10, and 7 years old. Those ages are historical and will have changed; they should not be read as current. ABC News also reported that Evie sometimes performed with her father, and Dierks has said she has a natural voice, enjoys theater, and that he wanted her to find her own way into music.
Dierks has also described his involvement in day-to-day family life. In a January 2019 interview with Global News and ET Canada, he said he did school drop-off and pickup when he was home. These are his own descriptions of his role, not an account of Cassidy’s share of the family routine.
Cassidy in Dierks’s music
“Woman, Amen”
In a January 2019 interview with Global News and ET Canada, Dierks said the song was inspired by Cassidy and described it as a way of expressing his feelings for her.
Rank #3
“I Hold On”
In an interview with City Lifestyle, Dierks described “I Hold On” as a love song about his wife.
Black
The album’s title, as explained in the 2016 Guardian interview, uses Cassidy’s maiden name. It is the clearest example of her name appearing in his catalog, though his songs are the main public window into how he describes her.
Rank #4
In his own words
Dierks has been openly complimentary about Cassidy in interviews. Speaking to Glamour, he described her as “a really compassionate person, always thinking about others.” Asked about the marriage in an interview with Global News and ET Canada, he said, “So you know your wife should be your harshest critic.” The second remark is a light joke about candor rather than a statement about a specific event.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What the public record does not establish
- Her current occupation. The 2015 Glamour interview describes advertising work in San Francisco at an earlier time. No reviewed source confirms her present job.
- Her legal name and fuller biography. Beyond the points above, the reporting reviewed does not provide an independent biography.
- Current family ages. The only ages published in the reporting are from 2021.
- Finances and business activity. None of the sources reviewed supports claims about her net worth or any business she may run.
Anything beyond the interviews and reports cited here would need a separate, dated source before it could be repeated as fact.
