Public information about her centers on the marriage, the family, and her close relationship with the program’s players, not on a career of her own.
How Kathy and Geno Auriemma met and married
Geno Auriemma’s official biography says the two met in December 1972, when he was attending Montgomery County Junior College, and that they married in 1978. The same biography describes Kathy as his most valued and trusted source of guidance and loyalty.

A Connecticut Post report by Paul Doyle, updated April 6, 2025, fills in the years that followed:
- The couple moved through Geno’s earlier coaching posts before he was hired by UConn in 1985.
- Their first child was born during those moves. The family first lived in an apartment in Willimantic, Connecticut, before settling in Manchester.
As of October 2026, that puts the marriage at more than 48 years.

Family
UConn Athletics’ staff profile identifies Kathy as Geno’s wife and lists three children and six grandchildren. This article uses those counts rather than naming the children, because the spellings of the names differ between sources.
Kathy’s connection to UConn women’s basketball
Kathy’s public profile in the program is informal. It rests on her presence around the team and her relationships with players, not on a university job.

Players and the Manchester home
The Connecticut Post reports that players sometimes came to the Auriemmas’ Manchester home to see Kathy, and that the house was a gathering place for players and program staff. Geno told the paper that when he was frustrated with a player, Kathy helped him think about how that player felt and what the player saw.
Geno said of her relationship with the team:
“Her relationship with all my players, all my teams, is pretty special.” — Geno Auriemma, quoted by Paul Doyle in the Connecticut Post, April 6, 2025.

The Star Kids scholarship
In August 2023, UConn Today reported that Steve and Tina Romaniello had established the Star Kids Kathy and Geno Auriemma Scholarship to support UConn women’s basketball players. Kathy spoke about the team in the same report:
“The team is an extension of our family.” — Kathy Auriemma, quoted by UConn Today, August 2023.
Rank #4
She said she was glad the scholarship could help young people who might not otherwise be able to attend college.

What the public record does not establish
- No formal staff role. Available reporting does not describe Kathy holding a coaching, staff, or university title.
- No detail on her career, background, or private life. The sources cited here do not cover her occupation, upbringing, or personal views beyond the attributed comments above.
- Program totals are not hers. UConn Athletics’ profile, accessed in October 2026 and covering the 2025–26 season, credits Geno with 12 national championships, 25 Final Fours, six perfect seasons, and 61 conference championships. Those are the program’s records.
- Book context. UConn Today refers to Geno’s 2006 book, Geno: In Pursuit of Perfection. It is about him, not a biography of Kathy.
