Who is Ellie Bishop on NCIS?
Bishop was a member of the NCIS team, working alongside agents including Nick Torres. Her close professional bond with Torres developed into romantic tension, culminating in a kiss before she left. Emily Wickersham played Bishop; TheWrap reported that she had appeared in 172 episodes as of March 3, 2026, a figure attributed to that publication.
Why did Bishop leave NCIS?
In the Season 18 finale, Bishop departed to take on an undercover mission. To protect that work, she left under a cover story involving leaked NSA material, making it appear that she had disgraced herself. The leak was part of the cover, not a genuine betrayal of NCIS. Her abrupt departure also meant she did not say goodbye to Torres or explain the truth to him.

Showrunner Steven D. Binder later described the work as dangerous and taxing, with people dying and the operative bearing responsibility. Bishop’s absence was therefore not simply a transfer to another job: the cover and the risks of the mission shaped how she left the team and what Torres believed about her.
How does Bishop return in Season 23?
The lead-in
In the Season 23 midseason finale, “Heaven and Nature,” Bishop is glimpsed from a distance as Jessica Knight learns that the former agent has become a target. The official CBS announcement for “Her” describes the next step: Knight is ordered to arrest Bishop after she is designated a wanted cyber-terrorist, and Bishop asks Torres for help.
What happens in “Her”
“Her,” Season 23 episode 10, aired March 3, 2026. Bishop is not the rogue operative responsible for the threat; another member of her new group is revealed as the real rogue. After the immediate accusation is resolved, Bishop invites Torres to leave with her. He chooses to stay with NCIS.
What does the reunion mean for Bishop and Torres?
The reunion gives Bishop and Torres the conversation and closure their earlier departure lacked. They reconnect with an ease that Valderrama described as “like riding a bike,” but their histories have not disappeared: Bishop left him with a cover story, and Torres had to live with the belief that she had abandoned the team under disgraceful circumstances.

The episode leaves their future open rather than confirming a romance or a further appearance. Valderrama framed the ending as a question about whether their story has ended or another chapter has begun. That is possibility, not an announcement that Bishop will return again.
