Spoilers for the series finale of Netflix’s The Sandman. Daniel Hall is Lyta and Hector Hall’s son, not Morpheus’s biological child. After Morpheus dies, Daniel transforms into the new Dream of the Endless. Adult Daniel is played by Jacob Anderson, and the finale shows him beginning to learn the duties of his inherited role.
Who is Daniel Hall?
Daniel is the son of Lyta Hall and Hector Hall. His connection to Dream begins before his birth: Netflix’s finale explainer says Lyta’s dream pregnancy becomes real through her proximity to Rose Walker, a dream vortex. After Morpheus destroys Hector’s ghost, he tells Lyta that the child belongs to him. That claim foreshadows Daniel’s future, but it does not make Morpheus his biological father.

In Season 2, Episode 8, Loki throws baby Daniel into a fireplace. The fire burns away Daniel’s humanity, preparing him to become the new dream lord. After Morpheus dies in Episode 10, Daniel takes adult form, wearing white robes and the green Eagle Stone necklace Morpheus gave him. Jacob Anderson plays adult Daniel.
Why does Daniel replace Morpheus?
Daniel succeeds Morpheus as Dream of the Endless after Morpheus’s death. The ending presents this as a succession, not simply a recasting: Daniel is a new person taking on the office, with his own adjustment still ahead of him. The finale does not depict a long future for him beyond the closing scenes.

What happens to Daniel after he becomes Dream?
The episode following Morpheus’s death serves as a farewell to him. Daniel is introduced to the responsibilities of Dream and seeks help from Lucienne and Matthew. Both are grieving Morpheus, and they initially resent Daniel’s presence. Showrunner Allan Heinberg described that grief and uneasy adjustment as the emotional center of the funeral episode.
The series ends with Daniel meeting his new siblings at a family dinner. It closes on the beginning of his life as Dream rather than showing how he will eventually settle into the role.

Is Daniel’s story finished on television?
Netflix announced Season 2 as the drama’s second and final season. Volume 1, containing six episodes, arrived July 3, 2025; Volume 2, containing five episodes, arrived July 24, 2025. Netflix announced a bonus episode for July 31, 2025. Heinberg said the series had always focused on Dream’s story and that, after reviewing the remaining Dream material from the comics in 2022, the team knew it had enough story for one more season. The ending does not announce a further season.

Yes. Daniel Hall has further adventures as Dream in the comics; in a TV Insider interview, Heinberg discusses The Sandman: The Wake. The comic offers a path to continue exploring Daniel’s story, but it is not required to understand the television ending. The available sources do not establish a complete comics reading order, so readers should check the contents and edition details of any collection before choosing one.
