Joyce kills Vecna, and the Hawkins crew kills the Mind Flayer. Several Wolf Pack soldiers die, and Eleven forces Lt. Akers to shoot himself. Kali appears to be killed, but Netflix’s finale recap does not make her death definitive. Eleven disappears as the Upside Down collapses; her fate is deliberately left unresolved.
Confirmed deaths in the finale
Netflix’s finale explanation, published January 2, 2026, confirms the major deaths but does not give a complete tally of every unnamed or off-screen casualty in the season.
Vecna
Joyce kills Vecna by beheading him in the finale.
The Mind Flayer
The Hawkins crew kills the Mind Flayer. Series co-creator Ross Duffer said of Henry’s choice, “But ultimately, in terms of where Henry goes, it doesn’t matter because he chooses the side of the Mind Flayer at the end of the day.”
Lt. Akers and Wolf Pack soldiers
Hopper kills several members of the military’s Wolf Pack unit during the conflict. Eleven kills the remaining soldiers and forces Lt. Akers to turn his gun on himself. Netflix does not state a precise number of Wolf Pack deaths.

Kali and Eleven: fates the finale leaves uncertain
Kali
The official recap says Akers “seemingly” murders Kali. The scene indicates that she is shot, but the recap’s wording stops short of confirming her death outright, so her status is best described as apparently killed rather than definitively dead.
Eleven
Eleven stays behind as the Upside Down collapses and then disappears from view. The finale does not establish whether she dies or escapes. Mike offers a hopeful version in which Kali used an illusion to help Eleven get away, but it is his story, not a confirmed account. The Duffer Brothers leave viewers to decide what to believe; Ross Duffer says, “She lives on in their hearts, whether that’s real or not.”

Did anyone die in Volume 2?
No one in the party dies in episodes 5–7, according to Netflix’s Volume 2 explanation, published December 27, 2025. That answer concerns the party; it should not be read as a season-wide casualty count.
What happens to Karen and Ted Wheeler?
Karen and Ted are critically wounded in the Demogorgon attack in episode 2 and are hospitalized, but Netflix’s Volume 1 explanation, published December 4, 2025, describes them as alive. Their injuries are not deaths.

Is this a complete death list?
No. The official explainers establish the major named finale outcomes, the party’s survival through episodes 5–7, and the Wheelers’ condition, but they do not document every unnamed or off-screen death across all eight episodes. The deaths listed here are the ones established in those accounts, not an exhaustive body count.
Netflix’s final-season guide, published January 1, 2026, confirms that all eight episodes are streaming: episodes 1–4 as Volume 1, episodes 5–7 as Volume 2, and episode 8 as the finale. That makes “so far” a question about the complete season.
