Who is Morgane Stapleton?
Morgane Stapleton, born Morgane Hayes, is a singer-songwriter whose work with Chris extends beyond the harmony vocals audiences hear at live shows. ABC’s 2025 profile describes her as a key figure in the making of his records since his solo breakthrough, while CBS News has also described her as a harmony singer and member of the band.

How Chris and Morgane met
Biography.com reports that they met in Nashville in 2003, when both were working as songwriters in nearby buildings. According to the profile, Morgane hoped to run into Chris while visiting a friend at Sea Gayle Music. After a few months, he asked her to write a song with him; she later recalled that first writing session as their first date. The Washington Post’s 2015 account also places their story in Nashville’s songwriting community and describes Morgane waiting at a friend’s Sea Gayle Music office to see him.
Biography.com says they married in 2007. The meeting story is based on accounts in those profiles, rather than a separately confirmed record of the couple’s private beginnings.

Morgane’s role in Chris’s music
Morgane’s contributions span several parts of the musical process, and those roles are not interchangeable. ABC’s 2025 interview emphasizes her involvement in creating Chris’s records; Biography.com describes her as a collaborator across his creative process and reports that she selected many songs for his early solo work. CBS News highlights her harmony singing and place in the band. AllMusic’s biography also notes songwriting credits and recording work with other country performers.
One useful point of connection is Traveller, Chris’s 2015 solo debut, as identified by the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum. The Hall says the album’s title track was written on the road trip that inspired the record, and notes that Morgane had bought the 1979 Jeep Cherokee Chris picked up in Arizona. That detail situates her in the story behind the album without reducing her work to a single anecdote.

Chris and Morgane’s family
In an ABC interview published March 23, 2025, Chris said, “We have five children, and we work together and do everything together. We’re barely ever apart. It’s a nice thing.” ABC reported that they had been married 17 years at the time and would reach 18 years in 2025. CBS News also identifies Morgane as the mother of their five children.
