Zygarde is Dragon/Ground, making Ice, Dragon, and Fairy attacks super effective. But no single Pokémon is a guaranteed counter in every game: Power Construct can turn Zygarde into Complete Forme when its HP drops to half or less, extending the fight.
What is Zygarde weak to?
The official Pokédex identifies Zygarde as Dragon/Ground and lists Ice, Dragon, and Fairy among its weaknesses. Ice is the most straightforward broad recommendation: it exploits the listed weakness without requiring a particular game-specific build. A type advantage does not guarantee a win, however; the result still depends on the game, battle format, Zygarde’s moves and ability, and your Pokémon’s stats and support.
- Ice: The clearest general offensive choice.
- Dragon: Also super effective, but its usefulness depends on the opposing set and battle context.
- Fairy: Another super-effective option; choose a specific Pokémon only after checking the game and matchup.

How do you beat Complete Forme Zygarde?
Plan for Power Construct if the version of Zygarde you face has it. Pokémon’s strategy coverage explains that when Zygarde’s HP falls to half or less, it can change from 50% Forme into Complete Forme. The transformation brings a substantial HP increase, so reaching the threshold is not the same as finishing the battle. Keep pressure on after the change rather than treating the first health drop as a knockout opportunity.
Ice remains a major threat, but it is not an automatic solution. Pokémon’s Sword and Shield-era Dynamax Adventures guide notes that support can help Complete Forme endure attacks; Dynamax mechanics in that mode can also make the encounter especially durable. In practice, bring a plan for sustained damage and the possibility of a longer battle.

Why the best counter depends on the game
Advice about a particular Pokémon or moveset is only useful in the game and format it was written for. Pokémon’s Sun and Moon-era strategy article discusses moves such as Thousand Arrows and setups involving Dragon Dance, Coil, and Substitute. Those are examples tied to that context, not universal instructions for every Zygarde encounter.

Thousand Arrows is a Ground-type attack that can hit Flying-type Pokémon and Pokémon with Levitate, according to that strategy coverage. That matters when planning around Zygarde’s own offense, but it does not change the broad type-based answer for attacking Zygarde: Ice is the clearest general choice, with Dragon and Fairy also super effective.
Before selecting a named counter, check the game, rules, Zygarde’s form and ability, its moves, and whether the fight is a single or double battle. Support and special modes such as Dynamax Adventures can change how reliably a nominal type advantage translates into a win.

What Zygarde’s forms mean
Zygarde’s form names reflect how many of its cells have gathered, not a ranking of counters. Official Pokémon Legends: Z-A descriptions characterize 10% Forme as having about a tenth of its cells, 50% Forme as about half, and Complete Forme as 100%. The 50% and Complete Formes are both Dragon/Ground.
The official descriptions present Zygarde as a protector of ecosystems. The 50% Forme monitors the ecosystems Pokémon inhabit and can become more powerful when battling threats to them; Complete Forme uses overwhelming power against those endangering the ecosystem. These descriptions explain the forms’ setting and do not, by themselves, establish a battle strategy.
