DC lists Diana Prince as her alias or alter ego—the name associated with her life in the human world—while Wonder Woman is her superhero name.
Is Wonder Woman’s real name Diana Prince?
Not exactly. DC’s official character reference identifies her as Princess Diana of Themyscira and lists Diana Prince as her “Alias/Alter Ego.” So the clearest distinction is: Diana is her personal name, Diana Prince is an alias, and Wonder Woman is her superhero identity. Who is Diana?
DC describes Diana as an Amazon princess from Themyscira. In the 2017 film, the official synopsis likewise identifies her as Diana, princess of the Amazons, before she becomes Wonder Woman. The synopsis calls her Diana, not Diana Prince. DC’s 2017 film synopsis
How did she get the name Wonder Woman?
The details depend on the version. In DC’s account of the modern comic origin, newspapers settle on “Wonder Woman” after Diana rescues hostages from Ares cultists at the UN International School. DC’s account also says a reporter is implied to have overheard Diana say, “I am wonder.” This explains the public superhero name in that comic-origin version; it is not a rule for every adaptation. Why do some Wonder Woman origins mention Diana Rockwell Trevor?
A separate comic-story explanation gives Diana a namesake: DC recounts that Hippolyta named her daughter after Diana Rockwell Trevor, a story told in Wonder Woman #12 (1988). Treat this as one continuity’s explanation, rather than a universal account of Diana’s name. DC’s retrospective on the namesake story
