Six standout stops are the Black Country Living Museum in Dudley; Powis Street, St George’s Hall and Stanley Dock in Liverpool; Port Sunlight on the Wirral; and Victoria Baths in Manchester. Liverpool Film Office connects several of these places to specific scenes, while the museum documents its role across all six series.
Why was Peaky Blinders filmed beyond Birmingham?
The story is rooted in Birmingham, but the production used locations in several cities. VisitEngland lists Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool, Sheffield, Bradford and Leeds among places associated with the series. A UK Parliament committee case study says the vast majority of filming took place in the north, mainly in Leeds, Manchester and Liverpool, and identifies the Black Country Living Museum as the West Midlands shooting location in its account. The series is therefore best understood as a multi-city production, not one filmed entirely in Birmingham. VisitEngland’s location guide and the Parliamentary case study provide broader context.
Six Peaky Blinders filming locations
1. Black Country Living Museum, Dudley
The Black Country Living Museum supplied the industrial Small Heath atmosphere, including Charlie’s Yard. The museum says the yard, based on its boat dock and anchor forge, appears in all six series. Its canal towpath, Canal Street Bridge, forges and metalworking shops also feature. This is one of the clearest places to connect the on-screen world with a real location: the museum documents the filming sites and offers official filming-location tours. Check the museum’s current visitor and tour information before planning a visit. Black Country Living Museum: Peaky Blinders.
2. Powis Street, Liverpool
Is Watery Lane a real place? No: the fictional street was represented by Powis Street in Toxteth’s Welsh Streets. Liverpool Film Office says the area stood in for the Shelby family home area in the early seasons. It also appears in scenes including Campbell’s invasion of Small Heath and Polly’s march with the Shelby wives. Liverpool Film Office’s location guide identifies the street and its scenes.

3. St George’s Hall, Liverpool
St George’s Hall provides the setting for several major sequences. Liverpool Film Office links it to Grace’s death, the season-five fascist rally and failed assassination of Mosley, and the opening of season four’s near-execution sequence. The building is a substantial landmark in its own right, but access to interiors or filming-related visits can vary; check current visitor information before going. Liverpool Film Office.
4. Stanley Dock, Liverpool
Stanley Dock supplied industrial dockland for the season-one showdown between the Peaky Blinders and Billy Kimber’s gang. Liverpool Film Office also connects the site to alleyways around the Garrison pub. VisitEngland identifies the dock as the backdrop for the showdown. Treat this as a working historic area rather than assuming every filming angle is publicly accessible; confirm access locally. Liverpool Film Office and VisitEngland.

5. Port Sunlight, Wirral
The model village of Port Sunlight stood in for Aunt Polly’s new rural home in season two, according to Liverpool Film Office. Its historic buildings and the Lady Lever Art Gallery make it a distinct stop from the urban streets and dockland used elsewhere in the series. Check the village and gallery’s current visitor information for access details. Liverpool Film Office.
6. Victoria Baths, Manchester
VisitEngland identifies Victoria Baths as the location for the season-two horse fair. It is a useful Manchester stop for viewers interested in a specific scene location rather than only the series’ Birmingham setting. Confirm current opening and access arrangements with the venue. VisitEngland.

The most visitor-oriented options described by the sources are the Black Country Living Museum and guided tours in Liverpool. The museum offers official filming-location tours and a location map. VisitEngland describes a Liverpool walking tour, run in partnership with the show’s creators, that covers more than ten locations.
