Most of the original Happy Gilmore cast who are still living are back for the sequel. Adam Sandler, Julie Bowen, Christopher McDonald and Ben Stiller reprise their roles in Happy Gilmore 2, which Netflix lists as available to watch on its service. Several other original performers died after the 1996 film, and the sequel honors them rather than bringing them back. The reporting behind this update covers sequel participation and tributes. It does not offer a full career update for every original cast member.
Who returned for Happy Gilmore 2
Netflix’s official sequel page lists Sandler, Bowen, McDonald, Stiller and other performers in the cast. Netflix Tudum’s sequel guide confirms the roles below, with the performer as the real person and the character as the role they play in the film. Tudum’s July 28, 2025 recap describes Bowen and McDonald’s return, and it notes that professional golfers appear among the sequel’s participants.

These are sequel roles, confirmed by Netflix’s own material as of July 2025. The sources do not show what any of these actors has worked on since, so the table answers “who is in the sequel” rather than “what are they doing now.”
Original cast members who have died
The Associated Press reports that five performers from the original film died after it was released: Bob Barker, Carl Weathers, Frances Bay, Richard Kiel and Joe Flaherty. Netflix Tudum says the sequel pays tribute to actors who have passed away and points to references to some of their characters. These performers are not returning cast members. The sequel refers to or honors them.

- Frances Bay: referenced through Grandma Gilmore.
- Carl Weathers: referenced through Chubbs.
- Bob Barker: referenced in the sequel, according to Tudum.
- Richard Kiel and Joe Flaherty: reported by AP as having died after the original film. The sources reviewed do not name a specific sequel reference for either of them.
What the available reporting does not cover
- Current non-sequel work. Coverage of the sequel does not list later film, television or stage projects for the living cast members.
- Personal circumstances. Nothing in the sources reviewed addresses the private lives of the cast.
- Regional availability. Netflix’s official film page identifies Happy Gilmore 2 as available to watch on the service, but availability can differ by country. Check the Netflix listing in your territory before you plan to watch.
The original film in context
Happy Gilmore was released in February 1996. The Associated Press, in 2025, reported that it grossed $39 million in the U.S. and Canada. That figure covers only those two markets and is AP’s reported number, not a total worldwide gross.
